I'm planning on training a Grandmaster Tailor. So far I'm at 90 skill and I've got the materials to get to 140. So far I've been getting about 1 skillup in every 3 attempts. Does this get worse? How many attempts will I need to make in order to get a skill up when my skill is 160? 200? 220?
Also, my soon-to-be tailor is a halfling. Do you guys think that making the Vale reinforced leather is an easier path than acrylia? In other words, are HQ Brute Hides easier than superior rockhopper hides? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Brute vs Hopper

Having raised my tailoring to 162 thus far I find there are far more hoppers that might yield the hide needed then there are Brutes.

In some cases the access to the hoppers is easier too.

Truth be known, there are many, many more brutes that *can* drop HQ brute hide than there are rockhoppers that can drop Superb/Flawless hides. Any brute-type mob in Kunark can drop the hides you want.

Now for the reality check: Its easier to hunt the rockhoppers in the Dawnshroud Rockhopper/Sambata cave for hides than fighting off adds in any of the zones that Brutes exist in. Also while any brute could drop a HQ brute hide, the drop rate isn't as good as the rockhoppers chances of dropping a superb hide in DS, SD, or...mons lethari? I forget the name of the last zone they drop in. (good hunting I hear, but I keep getting adds.)

So I think that studded rockhopper/reinforced rockhopper is the way to go, if your high enough of a level to do the hunting yourself (or you have a huge bank account). Otherwise, hunt Brutes for xp. You won't mind spending the extra time as long as your getting xp, and brutes are decent at the level range their ment for. Its harder finding them, but a little extra time is nothing compaired to the double reward (xp and farming, a very rare and precious thing in EQ.) Though again, my opnion is bank all of the HQ brute away for later use and level up to start hunting rockhoppers for xp as well.

as a halfling tailor of 221 skill, It is my opinion that HQ brute hides while rare as all heck, do afford a greater skillup.

Now let me stress this is my own opinion, however, in about 100 combines I have had a greater success raate and more skillups than doing solstice robes, acrylia or velious tailoring.

Now this is my experience only, but I wonder if perhaps veerant designed it to be an easier skillup route, but then made it difficult to find the acorns and the hq brute hides.

umm, just reminded me. The real barrier to doing alot of halfling cultural is getting enough acorns. While there are alot of people that hunt various Kunark zones where brute hides drop (and occasionaly they find their way to the bazaar), there is only one zone where misty acorns ground spawn and forage. While many people pass through misty that forage, most don't spend enough time there to get more than 1 forage "on the way to the bank". Misty Acorn Oil is the real roadblock. Right now I have 4 stacks of HQ brute hide in the bank (and I've stopped shopping for brute hide) but only have 1 stack of acorns in the bank (and I look every day for an acorn under 10pp. Most people place them at 30pp or more on Fennin Ro and since I'm not using them to make high end cultural yet, I won't pay that much!). Acrylia on the other hand, is always available. Occasionaly at good prices too.
