  • What's a Lvl 35 Druid with 158 Tailoring to do?

I just finished the Wu Armor, leveling at 158 in tailoring. I am thinking of trying the Acrylia Studded Leather until I trivial @ 188, then tackle the Wood Elf Cultural.
My problem: I've soloed the whole time, so far. But Dawnshroud Peaks, where the Superb Rockhopper Hides can be farmed, are just too tough for a Lvl 36 ( whoops! Lvl 35. Lost a level with all the Agro reds in Dawnshroud).
Any advice on where and how to get these hides at Lvl 35? Thanks.

I'm not sure what your bazaar is like, but at 36 on Kane Bayle, you might be better off killing Hill Giants for money to buy supplies for a little longer. As I recall, at about 38 or so, the Rockhoppers become soloable with a KEI. Unfortunately, I still have not found any information on any good source of acrylia that can be soloed. And the groups I've seen don't seem to come back with much acrylia.

It might even be better to farm plat, and buy LoY ribbons. Especially since you can forage dye components. I'm currently doing a mix of both of the above.

You don't mention what server you're on or how much plat you have on hand, but if you've got a bit of cash saved up (or can farm cash fairly well), and depending on your server's economy, you may want to consider Solstice Robes. As a Wood Elf Druid, you have to follow Tunare, right? So you'll be able to imbue your own emeralds, which makes that easier. And you should be able to farm silk in EK relatively easily at your level. You would need to find a friendly jeweller to provide the gem studded chains, which might be the biggest problem here (if you can find someone to provide them at cost, the chains cost about 25pp per robe attempt). But looking at your other options:

Acrylia Studded -- as you've seen, farming rockhoppers is tough (if not impossible) at your level, and depending on your economy, if you have to buy acrylia (and there aren't a whole lot of good sources at your level, unless you find the grimlings on the south island in Hollowshade and are lucky enough that they stay there for a while), that can get pricy in a hurry, especially if you hope to make something that will actually sell.

Cultural -- nice armor, but tough to get the components in sufficient quantity for decent skill up runs.

LoY ribbons -- very easy, and you can forage the components yourself, though it will still be slow, and the platinum ribbons are quite expensive.

Like most people, you'll probably end up doing a little of everything, but I think what you'll find is that unless you're of the level to farm components compulsively or to generate cash quickly, there really isn't any easy way to get tailoring past 158. (And it would be a stretch to say that it's "easy" even if you CAN farm these things...)

DSP you can start hunting the tribals at the GE zone then move to ME, then to the cave for hoppers or the Sambata's.

What level are the hoppers in Mons Letalis? They drop hides for acrylia.

Ok, gonna make 1 assumption here: your a wood elf druid. If I'm wrong read the rest anyways.

What you realy need is a few more levels so you can hunt DS. While it is technicaly possible to become a GM in any trade skill at level 1, realisticaly you have to have a source for materials. In this case, that would seem to be you running out into the world and gathering stuff first hand. So, what's a 35 druid that needs 3 quick levels to do?

The answer is go to Eastern Wastes, find the ulthork camp (also known as the prison camp, near the Rygorr Fort), and learn how to quad kite (also known as that evil thing that Druids and Wizards do). Start on Ulthork Hunters, pull 4 of them with ENSNARE, have your AE spell up (reckless lightning?), have a Kei (you'll need every bit of mana you can manage), run around the mobs a few times to gather them into a tight ball, then run ahead of them and nuke with AE. After a while (about 6 nukes) you'll be rewarded with 3 dead ulthork, and 1 running away. Kill that one and check your xp bar. Should be up by about 2 blue bubbles. Rince repeat as possible (stick to hunters and walrus till the warriors turn blue). This should result in a level ever 4 to 6 hours (and a few hundered plat if you loot everything and sell everything).
So, how dose this help with tailoring? Easy, it brings you within striking range of the next target you'll need for getting tailoring supplies. Hunt rockhoppers and store all of the hides you get. Turn HQ and less into padding and sell it (or sell backpacks, if you can.), and make all of the superb hides into cloaks. If you do that, you can afford to buy acrylia and sell the cloaks to cover you acrylia habbit (nasty one that). Gathering your own acrylia is unfortunatly a very time consuming thing. Let others do that for you. Also remember you can use a chissle to break down bricks into peices, so a brick is actualy 2 peices (or none, you can fail here too).

p.s. if your not a druid, hunt HG in Rathe Mountains. Decent xp, and cash that you'll need to save up for those first couple of sets of studs anyways. Also, get your smithing skill up to 100 at least to make studs. It's easy and cheep.
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*

Don't the ribbons only take you up to 162?

Looking at the LoY recipes, you can only do the folded medicine bag-triv 136 and the folded bearskin potion bag-triv 162.

Are there other ribbon combines that take you higher?

I just found out about this myself last night... what they mean are the Ribbons... look at the LOY page under the various "cultural" robes... anyone may make the ribbons, anf they stop at 187. They are expensive, but from what I see, all you have to have is some shears to work with, and you'll need to forage up some goodies to make the dye... One assumes you have brewing already, since you've done Wu. I've not done any of this yet myself, but when I have some spare plat I will give it a try. I'm a 57 druid, and I have 200 forage, so I'm hoping I can get some dyes made pretty easily.

I was taking the actual cost to most people of the chains (about 500pp, since most people don't have access to a JCM3 jeweller), and dividing it by the number of attempts most people at his skill level will do (on average) per success on the robes(about 20).

Thus, 25pp per solstice robe attempt, as I said above.

The ribbons look pretty straightforward, but where do you find the hickory or elf bow staff?

Unsurprisingly, "Bow Staves" are sold by any vendor that sells Bowyering equipment (supplies to make Bows).

There's a big list of them on the main site.

And that's an elm bow stave. I'm afraid to ask would a bow staff made of elf would be like...

You can probably still xp off crag spiders...another thought.

Since the thread seems to be about post-158 tailoring, not sure why anyone would care about the Crag Spiders, though.
