  • Fleeting Quiver / HQ Lion

I was told that the HQ Lion Skin only drops off of Highland lions in NK.... is this true?

After spending an hour or so of tracking and murding the purty kitties, I had zero HQ pelts. I understand that its a rare drop, but I'd expect to at least get one in that amount of time... assuming I'm killing the right thing.

Any help would be much apprecited. Thanks in advance.

    Takes many

The HQ lion skins from the Highland Lions in the Northern Plains of Karana are, in fact, crazy rare. You will find that tracking and killing all highland lions should run you out of highland lions in short order. Kill regular lions and griffawns to encourage more to appear. There are reports of people having killed in excess of 300 highland lions before seieng their first HQ lion skin. In my own experience, it usually takes me a day or two of solid hunting to get one. At a guess, I'd say I've successfully acquired perhaps 6 of these in my career (about 18 months). They will drop eventually, have patience.

Thanks. As long as I'm hunting the right things..... I can deal with the stupid drop rate.

        re

They are stupidly rare. I spent 10 hours one sunday (before my son) doing nothing but killing those stupid lions and only got one HQ lion skin.

This sounds silly I know, but be sure to check vendors in NK and EK periodically, as well as the bazaar. I picked up one from a vendor in EK for 1 gp and another in bazaar for 50 pp. Most of the time they are 400pp in bazaar but sometimes you may find one at a bargain.

In my experience I'd rate them somewhere between uncommon and rare. There are many more things in EQ that are truly, insanely rare and I would definitely not put these in that category. Best advice I can give is to slaughter anything that moves in the zone. Not just lions and Highlands lions, on the theory that you have more chances of spawning Highlands.

            Rare

I put in 4 hours one day, 3 another, 3 a third and 5 yet another day. I've never seen one drop. Was lucky enough to buy one and the tailor succeeded. Thank GOD!

Why would any one want something like this to not be crazy rare. This is not an item we would use for skilling anyway considering that it is a container and requires a distilled mana( 2 saphires). We all know what a flooded market does to prices and the only way prevent this is to make this a rare drop.

Peeps are only going only buy one of these items in thier lifetime, so there has to e something to keep the market from being flooded.

I personally have killed 300+ lions and have gotten 1 HQ pelt.

I used to swing through NK once a while and kill lions for a while and forage for plains pebbles...once I had killed all I could see on track and they were refreshing, I'd take off.

I've probably looted 10 or so in my career and was probably given or bought that many again (I tried to make a fleeting quiver for every ranger in my guild who didn't have better - had the sapphs donating from guild raids). Granted, being able to port in, track around and kill few every so often is pretty handy.

                  Rare? Oh, YEAH!

Firstly I'd like to say, after my LONG absence - GRATZ CHENIER! Kudos on the 250 and retirement.

HQ lion IS one of the rarest items around. I'd like to hear why Borofin thinks that they are a bit lower than rare. I've made many a fleeting quiver, but most of the pelts were purchased, either with plat or with mega-buffs of those who can actually hunt in NK for fun and XP. Based on MANY years of HQ lion killing not just by me but by members of this forum, I'd say that 1-3% of Highland lion kills is a really good estimate.

Unfortunately a fleeting quiver is not what it used to be. I'm a little far from the game to state with certainty, but most rangers with the plat to pay are already beyond the haste cap. It was suggested that quivers weren't haste, but decreased delay (NOT the same thing), and thus not under the haste banner, but Ranger's Glade is the place to ask this.

                  Death to Highland Lions!

Try genociding the willowisp population, they are place holders as well (the worst ones, in fact, since guards don't randomly kill them). A druid friend got 25 chasing after her at one time, then cast catastrophe on them killing them all instantly. 10 minutes later, 4 highland lions appeared on track.

My ranger spent around 30 hours there one 10 day period.. got none. A druid frie3nd of mine spent maybe an hour there, and got 3.. If you're actually looking for them, you won't find any (tis my theory)

However one defines it, quiver "haste" along with bard haste is the only way to break the haste caps. Therefore, one could quite feasibly make the argument that to an EQ/AM3 Ranger a Fleeting Quiver ranks quite high on the desireable equipment list.

Yep, stupidly rare. I had two sitting in my inventory for a long time, and was working on pottery skillups with sealed poison vials. I grabbed the wrong pelts. Doh!! HQ Lion pelts do work for poison vials, just in case you were wondering.
