  • LoY Ribbon Skill Up Report (159-187)

First number is skill up, second is combines, as in

"skill up to 159 (from 158) took 1 combine"

    159, 1
    160, 3
    161, 1
    162, 6
    163, 6
    164, 2
    165, 11
    166, 5
    167, 2
    168, 22
    169, 12
    170, 2
    171, 2
    172, 7
    173, 6
    174, 4
    175, 4
    176, 6
    177, 4
    178, 2
    179, 6
    180, 1
    181, 11
    182, 4
    183, 4
    184, 3
    185, 5
    186, 20
    187, 22

    Total Combines: 184
    Total Skill Ups: 29
    Combines per skill ups: 6.3
Total Cost: not sure, around 13K (16k cost - 3k sell back)

Definitely not cheap but possibly cheaper than if you buy all your components from players.

In addition, just realized this. The LoY cultural robes are a lot cheaper for skill up. Just for fun, I attempted 2 Robe of Burnishing (dark elf). Cost of each is less than 30pp (Silver ribbon + Words of Burnishing from bazaar). 1 success 1 failure and 1 skill up.

Sure would be nice if all races could benefit from this.

        Stats?

When did you do these combines and what is your INT/WIS?

I did 70 combines of Plat/Lichenclover @ 280 INT last weekend and only got one point of Tailoring. (182 -> 183).

Candiil I had the kinda same problem (not quite as bad 70 and one skill up really blows). I did a stack and only got 1 Skill up from 182 to 183 a couple of nights ago.... Hope they didn't change the Skill up rate 'cause I was used to getting 3 or 4 before per stack (just takes me a while to get the 2.2K together per stack). But still better than Ceremonial Robes heh heh!

Hope It gets better for you!

Candiil, I was at 275 - 280 INT (depending on whether I had C3 on)

How did you aquire the components for the dye in bulk? I've had no luck foraging more than one or two an hour, and they're not in bazaar as far as I can tell.

If it were Revenge of the Erudite tailors, then only Erudites would be able to make them.

And I'll shut up about that before I grumble some more.

Unfortunately, skilling up for me using this isn't quite so easy. While I have a nice stack of ribbons for the Robe of the Ethereal, the words seem to be going for about 500p in the Bazaar right now on my server.
                No, that's not a joke.
And as always, the only spell research components that don't seem to be turning up on NPC vendors are the ones I want...

The skillup rate seems to have been changed.
I did about 30 combines to gain 17 skill ups a week ago, then after the 23-04-03 patch I have done over 80 combines only to gain 2 skill ups.
Its not many data to base the conclusion on, but its a rather significant change in the skillup rate.
If the RNG was just playing tricks with me, then it would be huge extremes I encountered and not many others should see a similar pattern.
The teplys here indicate that others sadly see a similar pattern.

Finnien, I run a druid (200 forage + 10%) on my second account (second PC). If I'm working on my main PC (playing or doing RL stuff), I have a 2-minute cooking timer to remind me to hit forage. If I'm not on my main PC, I make it a habit to hit forage everytime I passby the PCs. Your cursor can actually "hold" a few foraged items. So I'll only drop them in autoequip every 5-10 forages (10-20 minutes), or whenever I remembered.

As for forage rate, the Cursed Clover from OT is about 1 and hour for me too. So a lot of my skill up were from the Ashen Dye (Ashweed from Lavastorm, about 4-5 an hour.). I can't say for sure because I didn't collect data on it but IIRC, among the two foraged item for each race's dyes, one is rarer than the other. Stick with the more common one.

That 180 combines took me several weeks to setup, ever since I read about it on the other ribbon thread.

                      Lichenclover

If you can kill in FV then the drolvargs are a decent source of Lichenclover - way faster than foraging. There are more drolvargs on the east side of the zone than anyone could kill before repops, unless you round them up for AE.

I've recovered from the 6k blowout on my last Tailoring spree and maybe I'll try another stack of combines tonight.

Does race matter for making the ribbons? My understanding is that race only matters for the final robe combine. Granted, you would have no use for your completed ribbons, but I have found some of the temper components for other races ribbons at very cheap prices in the bazaar. Might be worth it as a skill up path.

I've been leveling a BL in Jaggedpine and been getting reasonable drops from the Potemids as far as the Plant Shoots. If I remember right the Guardians drop them the most.

Fenadin - anyone can make any ribbon.

The only reason that any of the robes can only be made by one race or another is because you can only get the robe patterns if you are a particular race (the NPCs who hand out the patterns will only do so if you're the same race they are).

Owing to the fact that the more difficult Erudite ribbon requires bamboo shoots, this is the only way that my Erudite would ever consider working on the higher triv gold ribbons.

                              got stuck at 182

I got stuck at 182 trying Platinum ribbons. I failed 40 in a row, with 355 Wisdom.

So I gave up on ribbons, and did Arctic Wyvern Masks to 192, then Ethereal Silk Swatch to 212, then Arctic Wyvern Masks to 217.
