  • New Dark Elf Cultural Robes(LoY)

Well, actually this could be about any of the new robes from LoY, but since im gonna be using a DEF, I thought I'd ask about the DEFs.

Looking over the trivials, the new robes seem like a wonderful new addition to the dismal prospects of skillin up after Wu's(Yeah, theres acrylia, but farming it is the debil!).

So my question is, how difficult is to gather the ingredients for the new robes? Is it actually a viable option like I think, or more of a "Ill make 1 or 2 to see, and hopefully sell them" option?

The third robe alone might convince me to start a high elf tailor.

The research component for the third robes seem to be fairly common. If you can get the dye components easily, you win.

Are robes a good skill up path? Absolutely.

Unless, of course, you are on my server in which case the answer is "Stay far away from those robes. They're bad luck." I need all the dyes for myself.

Components for the first three robes are fairly common -- A little vendor mining can easily turn up a stack of Runes of the Cyclone or Words of Burnishing. Wings of Xegony, a level 49 research component, are less common but still show up from time to time. The parts for the fourth and fifth robes sometimes show up in the bazaar here, but tend to be priced at at least 1000 platinum.

Dyes are. well. foraged. As an added insult, many of them can't be sold to merchants so they just get destroyed. Ashweed (not Ashroot or Asmag Weed, but Ashweed. It's different.) is foraged and drops rarely off of Goblin Warriors in Lavastorm while Cursed Clover of Viesar is foraged and drops occasionally from succulents in the Overthere. Think of it as the high elves revenge on us for having to use Morning Dew all that time.

Is it a good skill-up path? Look at it this way -- You can buy a Rune of the Cyclone for about 3p, a silver ribbon for 15p, and a foraged Clover to make a Robe of the Cyclone that trivials somewhere over 200. That's about 20 platinum for a combine, plus whatever you feel like paying for the foraged bits. Even if you can only find dyes for other races (lichenclover or honey berries are quite common), then you can combine them with gold ribbons with a trivial in the 160s for only 30p. That's even cheaper than solstice robes, and without the annoying chain.

Think of LoY robes as the shadowscream of tailoring, a "slow / cheap" path, only with much easier components and no start-up quest (unless you count the "write a cheque to Sony" quest, but that's not too hard.)

And yes, the demand for tailored robes on my server is about the same as the demand for shadowscream armour. Even the Robe of Wings (8 int, 10hp, bunch of saves and other stuff) sits unwanted on my trader, collecting dust. I often see tailors from the big guilds running through the plane of knowledge, _begging_ people to buy their bags full of robes. Mostly I just sell mine (for almost 10p each) to busy vendors.

This is a great option for my HE tailor. My main problem is the foraged stuff (Sylvan berries and Lichenclover).

The research components aren't too bad(Runes of sorcery are pretty common), but by far the best is the third robe. It uses tears of prexus which seems to show up everywhere. They have decent stats and I manage to sell about 1 a day for 750pp. I will be using these for the majority of my skilling from here on out.

I also like making the 5th robe when I can get my hands on Runes of impulse (only 5 so far). The stats are very comparable to the Froglok Bonecasters robe which sells for 5-6k on my server.

I never planned on taking tailoring up higher than 200, but now I plan on GMing it as soon as I get AA's.

I suppose to gett AA's I need to get more levels. I suppose to get more levels I have to put tradeskills on the side....../sigh
