  • When to start trivial 250+ cultural tailoring?

    Hello,

I'm currently working on tailoring to craft my own armor (I'm an erudite cleric of CT) and have actually 193 in the skill.

I was planning on waiting 240 to make my firsts attempts but it's very long and I'm very impatient. :P

Anyone know when I can start my firsts attempts with a reasonnable success rate?

    re

i attempted 14 tries at woodelf blue diamond cultural at skill 213 (impatient also) with no successes, no skill ups.

I tries 7 more attempts at skill 219 with no more successes, no skill ups.

Guess the RNG hates me or you have to wait til higher. I am going to try again at 230 and see how it goes. Good luck with the erudite cultural!

I think I ran out of patience and tried at 220 skill or so (can check at home). I got one bracer out of six tries. I made a couple more at 225-ish, and at 230 I made the rest of the set my bf's druid now wears (he pinched it! :P) and the set I made to replace it.

Well, I'm also an Erudite cleric tailor and I know how hard it is to wait BUT the failure rate at lower levels is pretty high. I tried a run in my 220's
and burned through 17Kpp of supplies without a success and without a skillup. If you can afford it, no biggie, but if you can't I'd suggest waiting. I'm at 239 now with my GM needle and I make the item more often than not. I would say wait until at least 235 because the loss of blue diamonds otherwise is gut wrenching.

        Just my opinion though.

I started at late 220s/early 230s with serious Halfling Cultural combines. I was about 20% success at that point, now at 250 I'm about 90% success. Its cheaper to wait.. but fun to try early :P

at 250 skill + Geerlok attempted 2 Stormreapers Boned leggings, failed both. 1 Stormreapers Chainwoven Tunic success.

dont matter what your skill is, you will STILL FAIL.

With the cost of supplies so high, and blue diamonds going for a resonable amount, I figured it would be cheaper to try and fail then to skill up to 250.
Starting with a skill of 172 I set to work on making some Neriad's Steelweave:My first run was 5 attempts for a bracer, and once I got that 4 fails on boots. 2nd run was 10 boot combines, skillups on the last 2 and boots on the 10th. 3 fails on a BP were followed by a sucsess on a bracer I tried with my last silk. I may have been very lucky, I KNOW I'm insaine for doing this. The RNG is a moody, fickle thing, and to try this low is to place your fate in her hands. If you look at the cost of what you put in that kit, and the value of the armor you get out of it IF you make it, it works out, at least at my level of luck. This path is not for the faint of heart. I feel like one of those commercials with "results not typical" in small print at the bottom, but I've got 2 BD bracers and a pair of BD boots using 29 swatches, and that incluedes the BP failures. Good luck in your tailoring!

I think I was in the mid 230's - remember that with the geerlok or trophy, 239 gets you 250 - so you can see that most of the folks in this thread are getting some not-so-depressing successes in the 230's and I'll bet all using a geerlok or trophy.

And that's really, really close to actual skill of 250 - so there ya go.

For what its worth I made a Rigid Steelweave BP and Bracer for the froggy warrior I started. My skill was at 201 when I made the attempts. It took 2 attempts for the BP and I went 1 for 6 on the bracer.

                    Re: Cultural

Hehe, i still suspect they messed up the failure rate on the tailored cultural, 3 months ago i was 70%, then 2 months of 20%, then after a decent combine session i made 2 BPs, 2 legs, 3 belts with no failures, then 13 failures on bracer to make 1 success (and even for a guildie )
I wouldnt start before at least 230, if possible wait till 243 (255 with geerlok/GM needle)

So what you're saying is that you had a string of good success, a string of bad success rate, then a run of good luck, and then a run of bad luck?

Yup, the RANDOM number generator sure is broken.

                      Yup yup!

So far I've made 10 attempts at cultural stuff (I'm an erudite cleric of CT too, hehe) and I've had two successes so far. My first attempt was at 165 + geerlock (successful!), and the last 3 i did were at 184 skill + geerlock (all failures). And yes, I am both insane and lucky, before anyone points that out.

Ok, thank you for you advise, I will wait until 230.

I just fished about 350 cobalt cods, didn't found the velium yet (350 * 3), I wonder how many skill points I can gain with that.

                            re

if the RNG is in a decent mood, with 350 combines you will get about 17-18 skill points.

If the RNG is in a horrible mood, you will get much less.

Plus you are in the 190's which are known to be troublesome.

I would say you would average about 1 skill up in 20 combines though maybe if you are lucky
