  • Skill-Up Data on Racial Robe Combines

Ok, just unloaded a bunch of pp (sigh) doing 84 combines. I primarily attempted Platinum White Ribbon (Steam Dye + Elm Shears + Platinum Ribbon) with a couple of others mixed in.

    Beginning Skill: 167
    Total Attempts: 84
    Ending Skill: 177 (10 skill-ups)
    Successes: 67
    Failures: 17

Materials cost: 84x105pp (ribbon only -- made all the dye) = 8820
    Sellback price: 67x28.8 = 1594
    Total Cost: 7226
    Cost per Skill-up: 722.6pp

    expensive

    Grats, I suppose.

I think this is quick going to become the new "I want to throw PP at tradeskills" route. All you need is a steady supply of Dye-stuff

Yah, it really hurts throwing away that kind of cash (at least for me). I still haven't decided how to go for 188, whether by more ribbons or staying with Acrylia Studded. The issue is at level 63, it's almost easier for me to choke down the expense and spend a few hours/days pharming pp than to go through the pain of pharming Acrylia Studded components.

If I decide to continue with Ribbons I'll post more data.

Instead of skilling up on ribbons, a much cheaper route is to skill up the first three robes that your class can do. For example, the Robe of Scent is my skill up of choice (human Druid). It trivials above 216. Cost to make (or attempt to make):

Essence of Rathe - Free (if my own drops), usually 10pp in Bazaar
        Parchment / Quill - under 1pp
        Gold Ribbon - 30pp
Dye - Free forage (or I buy it when the dye component is in Bazaar) / under a gold for water

So, on the high side, figure around 1000pp per stacks worth of combinable materials. Low side, avoiding the Bazaar 600pp (but more time consuming). Compare that with the cost of superb / flawless hides and pieces of Acrylia. Of course you can farm those, but the same applies to the robe materials. I guess the only drawback is relying on the INT caster to make your swatches... But we've all made an INT caster and gotten their research skill up really high, right? I took my Necro from 1 to 190 in spell research in 1 day specifically to make me swatches.

I think it's a much more desireable route to go than Acrylia. Or at the very least a good way to supplement making Acrylia Studded / Reinforced. I hated being locked in before LoY. Now I have choices.

        Good luck!

          I wish I could...

Unfortunately, Halfers don't have robes :P

I did another 51 combines tonight on Platinum White Ribbons and got another 3 skillups to hit 180. This method is gettting too rich for my blood and I'm going to switch to Velious recipes now before I go broke, heh.
