    Gold Ribbon

I did 10 combines of gold ribbions and got 3 skillups (163 164 165) @ 280 INT. Best skillups I've ever gotten for tailoring, and as the fellow said above, all it takes is a forager running on the computer beside you.

      Ribbons are insane~

did 173 - trivial in 4 stacks of plat.

Took me an average of 8 blessed robe combines and 7 acrylia combines for 1 skillup. With acrylia being 50p a piece and 100 a block + hides at 120-150 each, the choice was easy.

Sorry I havent kept any exact figures but I thought I could add something to this discussion...with 224 wis I skilled up from 163 to 167 on 1 stack of gold ribbons, then from 167 to 173 on 2 stacks of platinum ribbons, on average it works out to 3 skill points per stack of ribbons or rather 6.666. combines per skill-up. The platinum ribbons cost 105pp each at the merchant and the dyes are free (AoE Kobolds in Steamfont for the springwater, plus foraging in between) so it works out to approximately 700pp per skill point....I have tried selling the ribbons in the bazaar, even below cost, but to no avail, so I fear I may just sell to a merchant to recoup roughly 20pp each. Even if I were to sell to merchant, it still saves me about 750-1kpp per skill point on average againts Acrylia/Velium tailoring methods.

I hope this post made sense to all and I hope it helps! I'm gonna go blow some more on ribbons and save the results of some very time consuming farming to when I actually need them!

          Ribbons are awesome.

With 255 WIS and a Geerlok, I went from 159 to 167 in just 19 combines of Gold Ribbons and not one failure. I almost passed out when I got 4 of the skillups right in a row. 8 skillups for less than 600pp.... I'm still in shock. I'm not sure if I'll continue on with the Platinum Ribbon combines to 187, but it may be a more viable way(quicker, but not necessarily cheaper) instead of farming Acrylia and Rockhoppers.

            Ribbons

            I finished 166 and 167 with 14 more combines. So it took a total of 24 combines to get 5 points (163 .. 167).

It might be sorta expensive, but its really fast! Bewteen vendor mining and killing everything in the Steamfont gears area I have three stacks of Steamfont Springwater to use up now.

                Ribbons ROCK...

...did 177 to 182 in less than a stack of ribbons (260 int).

The only drawbacks I see are the fact that you must have Legacy of Ykesha, they all require a foraged component (easier to get than you think), and that the ribbon's sellback are less than 1/3 of their purchase price. Also, the initial ribbon you buy is NO DROP, so if you get too many, you'll have to make them into something...

                  Robes as a skillup path.

Dont completely rule out using robes for skill; research components quite often find their way to vendors or traders, and can be gotten...well, a heck of a lot faster than components for Acrylia or Arctic Wyvernhide. If you are a researcher, you can convert the components into swatches as you go, and tailor them into robes on the road, only needing to stop for parchments and quills.

And if you arent, then It shouldnt be hard to find a researcher.

I can, off the top of my head, count 4 of them that I know with 110-180 skill in research.

The only thing that makes me wary of spending money skilling up on platinum ribbons is how difficult it is to find the research components for the later erudite robes. Dew clovers and runes of tempest are used in many spells now, which makes them ridiculously expensive and sought after on my server. I haven't seen any yaeth 78 for sale or drop yet, so the visage robe might be viable. *shrug*

Think it's rather evil of Verant to make us choose, yaeth 25 - intellect swatch or KEI? hmmm :P

Absolutely agree with the posters above. It was a LOT easier to skillup using ribbons than Acrylia studded. Also, it's a double skill up since you can use them to skill up on robe combines. From 165, I was able to get to 187 using lower end robes combines (got 2 points on combines) and the ribbon combines. I would say about 15 robe combines and 4 stacks of ribbon combines to get to 187.

Before, I was averaging about 1-2 skills per stack of Acrylia combines. Few nights ago at 190 I combined 34 combines of Acrlyia Boned armors and got 1 point up on skill.

Looking at having to farm 34 Flawless Rockhopper hide (at least one week of farming to get that many I would think) and as many Acrylia Small Bricks (Another 2-3 days) it would be much easier to buy them. Total cost for those combine was over 10kpp for one skill up.

Compare this to 4 stacks of ribbons of various kind cost me about the same for 22 points.

I just don't like farming unless I absolutely have to so to me, it was so much cheaper using ribbons than Acrylia route.
