  • On new robes, ribbons, etc...

Well, Ive almost bypassed the Studded Acrylia step using the new robes and ribbons. I think it's actually cheaper.

    BUT...

Didn't they do a terrible disservice not only to tailors, but to the game itself by making these robes sell back to a vendor for only 9pp? I've worked on several of the 3rd robes for human tailors (Robe of Concussion), and I'm being forced to sell them in the Bazaar for a rediculously low price. Soon, any newbie with 25pp in their hand is going to have a robe that not all that long ago would have been considered mid-range gear. The least they could have done is given them a vendor purchase price of somewhat under the cost of the platinum ribbon... Oh well.

And if any tailors on Veeshan are contemplating doing robes for skill-ups, my trader Travious is selling pre-dyed platinum ribbons of all types for less than it costs to buy the ribbon in the first place. What a sad state of affairs. At least it's another route to go I guess.

    Keep sewing,

To what does this post refer?

I cannot find the relevant recipes.

Indeed, I cannot find a Robe of Concussion listed on alakhazam.

Edit: NM found under LoY racial tailoring

      Robe prices

While I haven't made any of the robes yet, I am not surprised at the sellback price, it is true of many of the tradeskill items that we can make.

As for myself, I don't plan on making any of the 3rd or higher robes until after I trivial out the 1st and 2nd robes, whose cost is less than 20pp per combine.

I have made a few 3rd and 4th robes. I was expecting Solstice robe type success rate but was able to make a bunch at about 175-185 skills. I put them on bazaar and have sold only one robe, 3rd robe, for about 1kpp. I put the 4th robes at 1.5kpp. I am going to watch the market and adjust the price accordingly. So far, I am the only one selling high elf version of the robes in bazaar.

Im also trying to do the ribbon route for skill ups myself. Been trying to sell them for 30pp (for the gold ones) but it doesn't seem like anyone on SolRo is seriously skilling or making them yet. So if you're an int caster and either skilling up on or making robes for profit let me know. I've got a ton of ribbons and have no problems farming/foraging dye components. Send me a tell in game or a PM on the boards and we can both save some cash and skill up in peace

            Selling ribbons

I have the feeling that selling the ribbons just isn't going to be that successful. If someone is making the robes, they probably made their own ribbons as they would be trivial to someone attempting to skill up on the robes.

There's a small chance of selling some of the ribbons you cannot use to someone that can, but so far I haven't had any luck.

Would it be a silly strategy to do the non-restricted subcombines to raise the tailoring skill of a main and then turn them over to an alt to skill-up on the final product? Or would my main (Barbarian Shaman) be better off selling the subcombines back?

I'm going to bump this to see if anyone responds because it's something I've been agonizing over for quite some time now. I've been hesitating to do any tailoring combines post 159 simply because I've had a hideous time trying to figure out if it's worth it for my Barb Shaman to even bother with ribbons given that she can't do any robes. (Curse Sony for no cultural Barbarian tailoring, darnitall; we're *rich* with hides in Everfrost!) Why would I bother with ribbons at all if there's no chance of actually using them myself given that I can't save them for any kind of robe combine? I seriously doubt ribbons sell for anything on my server. Is the farming on the alternative routes really that bad?

most find that they can farm plat to use ribbons to skillup quicker than they can farm items to skillup. or they are using ribbons and saving the other components to skill up with after ribbons. ribbons are by far the fastest.

I went from 159 tailoring to 200 on gnome cultural robes from LoY. The robes seem to sell in the bazaar pretty well, especially the higher end ones.

If you have an alt who may eventually use the ribbons to make robes, it is not such a bad deal to use them to skill up if you can farm the dye components yourself.

The biggest problem is that after the 3rd tier of LoY robes, the OTHER component needed for the swatches becomes hard to come by ... 4th tier components that come to mind are dew clover (Erudite) and flake of lodestone (Human).

When you get to the 5th and 6th tiers which use the dyed Platinum ribbons, you are looking for words/runes/etc that are both uncommon and in pretty high demand for spell research combines. So there is a glut of platinum ribbons made for skill ups, and a shortage of the swatches to go with him for the final robe combine.

Interesting, yesterday I looked for an alternate method of skilling up on tailoring, and I came across the ribbons.

Lickily, though, the gold ribbons can also be used in making folded bearskin potion bags, and my guild has a few shammys in it!
