Viability of Wood Elf Cultural for Skilling Up 188 - 228 ?
Rendlin - this can be explained by the fact that the trivial for wood elf cultural is 228 whereas all the other combines you mention are trivial well above 250. You have a better chance of skillups on a success as opposed to a failure.
Rumor. :-)

I can't count the amount of times that i've heard the same thing.
It seems that one of the side effects of actually seeing a developer confirm this, is that all who read it get memblurred and can't remember where they saw it.
If this was indeed the truth, you would think that it would be common knowledge on this website. This would be huge news for the tradeskill world and I don't think huge news is going to slip by the most indepth tradeskill site on the internet.
I see developers post on this site from time to time. I would think that if they were going to confirm something of that sort, this would be the place to do it.
Just for fun I went to Lake of Ill Omen last night and started killing Sabertooth Tigers. I killed about 30 - 40 and I got 1 Excellent Sabertooth Tiger Hide. I bought one other from a player and found one on a merchant in FV.

Acorns are a pain, but not really that bad. Make sure to run around looking while you forage (or find a halfling to pl, I find that makes the time go by quicker).
As a comparison, I got 40 acorns in about the same time it took me to get 11 yew leaves.
I do agree that flexibility is the key. Watch the bazaar, let people know you are looking, shift around different camps (to keep boredom down if nothing else) and just keep throwing yourself at it ...
One thing this whole discussion seems to be ignoring is return on the finished product. I did some wood elf cultural for a while, but to be honest, it is pretty lousy armor. I gave most of it away to guildies for their young alts and what I sold in Bazaar, I sold for 200pp or less.
I found arcylia studded and reinforced sell consistently if you avoid sticking with one or two easiest items. I chose to risk the additional studs and bonings to make cloaks, tunics, arms, legs and my sales were brisk. Not sure I made a profit, but at least I was able to recoup some of my costs.
I am using the same tactic with velium, avoiding the arctic wyvern masks and going for other items. So what if I get one belt out of 20 attempts; at least I can give it to a friend who will be pleased to get it or I can sell it for a few hundred pp.
I have done probably have my tailoring skillups doing the solstice robes, since I was selling earring kits. Again, my success rate was very low, but the cost of a failed combine attempt is relatively cheap.
Bottom line for me is I do whatever I can that keeps me going. If I were to decide to do solstice robes until I hit 250, I would never make it. I need to at least attempt something different from time to time. Over the weekend I tried some tigeraptor and cobalt drake armor in addition to the wyvern. No successes, but I was looking forward to doing the tailoring just cuz there was a slim chance I might succeed on something new.
Does anyone else use this criteria in skilling up? I see lots and lots of numbers and logic here, but for me, I have to do whatever it takes to keep my head and my heart involved.
