  • Half elf tailor? eed some advice fast omgz

I've decided to get into tailoring, my main is a 65 half elf paladin and already has 158 tailoring due to the shawls. Is there any huge drawbacks in leveling up his tailoring to 250 or should imake a new tailor toon? My guild is in the elementals so my goal is really the tailoring stuff from there but it would be nice to have other areas of income for tailoring if small, but wasnt sure if i should use half elf since they have no culturals. Advice?

The no cultural thing does limit your choices, but between Velious, solstice robes and if you've got access/ability to farm supplies in PoP, especially elemental, there's nothing stopping you.

Just be aware that wis/int levels (or dex if it's higher) will influence how fast you skill up. I first started tailoring on my half elf bard, who has much lower int than my druid does wis. The skillups on my druid are noticeably faster since her wis is so much higher.

It shouldn't be too difficult for a paladin to get wisdom up. My husband can get up to 248 wisdom with his wis gear set and a KEI, and it's only 51; I imagine a 65 has a lot more money to blow on setup costs.

                re

Kyte, I don't know how high your bard tailor is, but the bard dex song (Katta song of dancing i think) is an amazing dex buff if the toon is high enough to sing it. My husband is a bard and I always ask him to play that for me when I am on a tailoring run. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Thanks! That's a great tip. My bard is 41, and unfortunately I can't two-box at the moment . When I need dex I usually bug my husband's shaman to buff me up!

                    Half Elven Tailor skill up

Well, first of all, yer bummin cause we don't have a cultural tailoring to do. <cry> Being a half elven tailor myself, here's best I can tell ya:

Jack up your wis with some gear just for tailoring, I keep almost a full set of gear and food/drink in the bank just for skill up combines, probably the only ranger on my server that keeps gear for 280 WIS. Once I got WIS over 255 I noticed a difference in skill up rate.

You're gonna have to do the regular cycle for skills... ie Studded Acrylia, Reinforced Acrylia, Velious Armor, Planar Armor. Studded will get ya to 168, Reinforced to the 230's, then Velious for the rest. The Solstice robes are another option, but only if ya wanna sink alot of pp into them and the resale market pretty much gone down to nothing now that everyone has them.

You can buy alot of your supplies in the Bazaar, but I'd recommend farming the rockhoppers in DSP for your pelts at first, easy to do at your lvl and save ya alot of cash. Same with acrylia. I buy some of my supplies, but usually wait for people with low prices since buying mass amounts of acrylia/pelts gets costly (but won't pass up good deals).

Remember that successful combinations will generally raise your skill faster then failures, so don't go straight to the velious combines right away. Save up your supplies for later when skill is higher, will allow you to make more stuff, be able to resell some of it and recoup your costs.

Around 230 skill + Geerlok, the planar and higher lvl combines are much more viable. ALOT less chance of failure.

                    Good luck

                      Hang on....

I thought dex did NOT affect tailoring?

As far as many well informed people can tell, dex dose nothing for you. There are persistant rumors that it dose, as well as having other stats above 100 (i.e. 255 wis, 100+ int, 100+ str/dex). Their rumors. Maybe there is something there and its so minute that nobody can tell reliably. Who knows?

If your the 6th best equipped paladin on a server, plat probably dosen't mean a whole lot to you, while the skill might. In that case, start making solstice robes till you start succeeding more often than your comfortable with (i.e. you do 10 combines and get a success most of the time), and then switch to doing velious armors. If your not swimming in plat (by that I mean you feel that having 100kpp in the bank means your broke and need to sell a few things) then follow the advice above.

                        just my 2 cents worth
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*
