  • Leatherfoot Haversacks

I was wanting one of these, and as per my usual cheapness I wanted to see about gathering everything for a halfling.

I was unable to find out which combines I can do on my own and where to find a couple things.

Woven furs are 3 dire wolf tufts with an embroidering needle... can I do this one?

Can I make the celestial temper (purified water, blue diamond powder)?

I can't find the recipe for the platinum thread anywhere... check JC, Smithing, and the halfling cultural page.

My goal would be to hand a halfling GM 4 woven furs and 3 infused platinum threads, to make it as simple, and naturally as inexpensive as possible.

If anyone can tell me what all I can and can not do exactly as a non halfling I'd really appreciate it. (ignore trivials for this, assume I have the required skill)

Nope unfortunately. The tufts are combined by a halfling in a vale sewing kit.

You definitely can and the tailor will appreciate it. BDs are often lost in the kiln or brew barrel making these. At 155 pottery (yeah I need to raise that) and 180 smithing I frequently need 4 BDs per haversack.

I can't find the recipe for the platinum thread anywhere... check JC, Smithing, and the halfling cultural page.

These are vendor sold in thurgadin, paineel and erudin. They cost 210pp each at best price. Only a halfling can make the infused platinum thread. It happens in the vale cultural forge in rivervale.

So as a non-halfling, the most premade stuff you can hand to the tailor is:

36 tufts of dire wolf fur
    3 celestial tempers
    3 platinum threads
    1 acorn oil

Keep in mind the 5% rule happens a lot on tufts since there are 12 combines involved. It especially hurts on the woven combine when you senselessly lose 9 tufts.

      That was absolutely perfect .

Still makes him do 15 sub combines (or more depending on failures)

At least now I know, thanks for the help.

Don't forget the acorn oil. When you need an acorn, you can never actually find one.

They are foraged and groundspawns in Misty Thicket.

          Actually it goes like this.

Patch of Dire Wolf Fur = 3 Tufts + Embroidering Needle
Woven Dire Wolf Fur = 3 Patches + Embroidering Needle

The actual name may not be Patch of Dire Wolf Fur, but you get my point.

Amen to that. Trying to raise my Tailoring (173) doing Halfling Cultural, I can get the HQ Brute hides no problem. Finding those acorns (Have a forage of 200) is the toughest part  .

Have you had any luck on the halfling cultural? The only person (that I know of, anyway) on our server who has tried to make it says he has about a 90% fail rate, at skill lvl 220 or so. I'm only at 204, so didn't dare try yet, cuz it's so dern expensive. I have about 100 HQ brute hides in the bank for when I do start to make it.

There is Halfing Cultural and Halfling Cultural.

At 173, s/he is probably making reinforced vale armor.

At 250, I have made some Stormreaper armor. My success rate probably is not different from 50%. Except for wearing it myself, I have sold exactly 1 (ranger legs) in The Bazaar. I did help someone make a (nearly) full set of visual armor (half elf druid). I don't even bother anymore.

What I did when I was skilling up was to hit Rivervale/Misty Thicket with a proposal. I would give vale armor to people who could bring me a certain number of misty acorns. Over the time I was doing this, I outfitted a couple of Halfing Druids with free armor, and still have enough acorns to use for myself.

You could try finding a low level tailor to do your tuft combines, if you don't want to aggravate the mighty tailor

Alternatively, you might find the things in the bazaar.

Same here, I find the rarity of HQ brute hides the reason halfling cultural isn't a feasible way to skill up. I can't imagine how long it would take to save up 100 hides.

                            HQ Brute Hides

I have a mule who lives in the bazaar pretty much 24/7 to help fund my tailoring, and I do a LOT of searches for the HQ Brute hides. When I see them for a reasonable (IMHO) price, I buy them. I've just managed to save 107. I have about 69 acorn oils saved as well. Once in awhile I can find misty thicket acorns for a decent price in the bazaar.

Those extra bank slots can't come soon enough for me!

The best source of hq brute hides is the caves outside of Dalnir. As a druid, my bind point is pretty irrelevant. For a long time, I was bound just near the Dalnir zonein. I would start my day there, and end my day there. There are 5 brutes with a fixed spawn, and I got about 1 every 20 or so. Or, try buying them for experience hunters if they are there.

Many of my alts spent lvl 24-32 in the caves getting experience (really slow after lvl 30). With the OT book, it is not too hard to get there, and there is a glok in OT who will sell to good races.

In addition to brute hides, the brutes drop a reasonable amount of gems.
