I have a geerlock, but have heard about item(s) that can boost your skill higher. Does such a thing exist? What is it called? Where does one aquire it?
Of course the fight with Shei is a bit off balance with the rewards... It has been a good year or more since I last faced her but I seem to remember something about her liking to DT the main tank, plus the level 60 adds that spawn every time someone dies which counting DTs was every 30 seconds I believe. Odd that the Itear Vius is considered the main boss of Akheva (to my knowledge), but Shei is alot more difficult.
The shears are very nice as well, but remember that at 250 skill a 15% mod is pointless.
Also from all the guilds that I have talked to, noone has seen a pair of shadow sheers drop in almost a year. They were on the drop table for the first 2 months or so that people managed to kill the shei vintras, but then suddenly seemed to have poofed from it. If anyone has personally seen a pair drop in the past few months, I would be interested to hear about it, although I personally believe (having killed the shei 10+ times) that they no longer drop.

Narith, the key utility of the Shears is the massively reduced skillup time. I'll use myself as an example. I am currently at skill 223, and with Shears I have the same success rate as someone that went to 239 + Geerlock. I've had the same success rate since I was at skill 218. So there's 21 points of Tailoring I never needed to grind out to get maximum success.
But it gets better. Remember the combine to make silks and leathers for the planar armour quest in PoP? Trivials at 212, can't be made until effective skill 220. You're at effective skill 220 when your actual skill is 192 if you have Shears. I was able to skill from 192 to 212 in three hours total, using the many Strands of Ether on vendors (cost: 2.5 pp each) and the aid of a 250 Brewer friend. And the items I made, if I hadn't given them all to my guild, not only sell well enough to make the money spent back, but also come with a 95% success rate (your effective skill is above trivial, remember). This is the cheapest, fastest skill path in post-158 tailoring by far.
I can confirm that Shears are dropping on Bertox--my guild has gotten 3 pairs of them since we started doing Shei (we recently quit doing "her", but I figure we did her probably 20 times or so, from January to April or so). I love my set
