To make hardened lizard hide you need flawless tae ew hide, and tae ew blood correct no other component before trying the combine? After that I use the pants pattern plus 2 hardened lizard hide's in a tailors kit. The reason I want to make absolutely sure is that it took what seems like years to get the hides.

You do not loose items anymore. You will get the do not combine message if they do not make a valid combine. I have not tried the recipe yet, but what you have written is the same as the recipe page.
