Another way I have found to help bridge tailoring gap from 158-178 is just doing the velium hound/silver thread combo for the Shawl quest. Trivial is 176 and velium furs not too rare a drop and silver thread is cheap. And I have gotten a lot of skillups doing this combo

With velium hound furs selling for 1k each, that's not such a good idea. But if they're a common drop for you, by all means go ahead. At least make enough for yourself to use in the quest.
