Terrorantula/Terrorantulings spawns

So, now that the silks are stackable, I got the notion to try to gather a few stacks. What misery. I killed everything...spiders, beetles, undead, pumas, orcs, madmen, sand giants, you name it. Nada. For 2 hours I killed and killed. Nada. Then, 2 Terrorantulings spawned. Each had one silk. 10 minutes later, 2 more spawned. Each had 4 silks. Then, about 5 minutes later, Terrorantula spawned - dropping 3 silks. 13 silks in 3 hours (6 swatches +1 leftover). Do you find this to be typical or is there some "magic" mob I have to kill to get them to spawn? I need silks so that I can make some of that Erudite Cultural armor (once I convince VI that the pre-250 Erudite Armor is not equitable to other tailoring races - See Rant). Any ideas? Perhaps you ran across it while camping the AC.

BTW do you have a Prexus cleric contact to imbue some black pearls??

No, but I believe Humans can worship Prexus too. I know a lot of clerics and will have to poll them (1 Erudite Cleric, 6 Human clerics; Dwarven, Gnome, Halfling, Dark Elf and High Elf clerics will not be polled). However, I am not nearly as concerned about imbuing the Black Pearls as I am about finding someone to imbue an Amber (WooT, 1pp) or Topaz (5pp). =)

The only Prexus clerics are Erudites. Ditto for Quellious. Cazic-Thule can be imbued by evil Erudites, Troll and Iksar shammies (not sure if Ogre shammies can worship C-T)

Amber should be easy to get....

Any iksar shaman 29 and up should be able to do it if you just get them the spell. They must worship Cazic-Thule. A very few troll shamans ( most bow to Inny ) could also be an option.

WooT...I know many ikky shamans. Maybe I will try some of this tonight. Yeah, I see the trivial is listed at <=119, but that does not make sense. At least I can give it a try. =)

Don't forget, too...

Prior to a change made in a patch early last summer, clerics were able to scribe Imbue spells for gems not of their deity.

So a Mith Marr cleric could very well have scribed Imbue Black Pearl. (as an example.)

Even if they have it scribed, does it allow them to mem and cast the spell? I do not know of any clerics that have more than their deity imbue scribed. Interesting concept.

Far as the Terrorantulas go?

Do the logical thing. Kill spiders.

I sit there and obliterate tarantulas. Got two Terrorantula and five Terrorantuling spawns (2-3 little guys) over the course of a day's work. Pulled about a stack's worth of silks.

It's not easy,but it's doable and you can save the regular silk for robes.

Imbuing gems.

As I understand it all Clerics could scribe and imbue all Cleric imbue spells. As long as it was a Cleric imbue spell, deity did not matter. A recent past patch fixed this. Now you can only scribe your own deity specific imbue spell. But Clerics that had already scribed other deities imbue spells could in fact still use them. "Grandfathered" if you will.

And yes I am still looking for a Prexus Cleric or any Cleric that has a Imbue Black Pearl spell scribed to imbue some Black Pearls for me....sigh

Morgrist has it pretty much right.

However, I've read that the Terrorantulings are on the same spawn cycle with Pumas and Sand Mummy's so may as well kill them too.

I found that the spiders would not spawn at night. If you kill them all you have to wait until daytime for them to pop. (Or perhaps that was just when they popped because I was killing them.)

I could spend a couple of hours killing spiders and see none...or I could be there an hour and get 3 or 4. It's random but the regular spiders definitely have to die.

The only problem I ran into was from people camping the AC. Sometimes Wizzies want to AE kill EVERYTHING to try and make it pop. This includes our precious spiders. Sometimes you can negotiate with them and get them to let you have the spiders. Sometimes you get an azz who says he sells the silk in the bazaar so he's going to kill everything in the zone and keep it all.

I made friends with someone there who was camping the AC and she ended up giving me about 30 Terrorantuling silks. I gave her 1k pp for her trouble (though she didn't ask).

Terrorantula and lings are on a cycle with desert tarantulas and some pumas. Zone in and kill all pumas and desert tarants in the desert area (you can ignore tarants on the grass). When they are all dead you will soon get another spawn of 2 to 7+ tarantulas, 2 to 4 pumas, Terrorantula, or terrorantulings. Some other stuff may be on this cycle too, sand mummy as mentioned above, SGs and maybe even the AC. But my ranger can reliably get terrorantula silks killing this cycle.

Rumor I heard was all you need to kill are tarantulas and pumas.
Sand mummy's etc are just other junk, but the pumas and trantulas are what spawns Terrorantulas or the AC and something else.
