  • So..... it's tailoring time next....

Ok, so i've figured, it's time to prepare for the worst case scenario, spend a few weeks prepping for it, and sit down, and max this thing to 250.

What i've done is set up 2 mules, each carrying 8 trader sachels, and 8 banked, all filled with sacred tunare silk. (Not *quite* finished filling yet, no baz traders on saryrn have silk anymore, i've run em dry). Another mule will be made closer to completion with 160 gem studded chains. And in my mains bank, are othmir furs waiting for when i get too close to 250 and run out of chains (may make more as necessary).

So my quesition is this.... with 3200 silks on each mule, making a total of 6400 silks or just over 2100 combines, would that get tailoring to 250? I know the RNG can be cruel at times, and downright brutal at others, but under pretty normal or maybe even slightly poor circumstances, would you get an average of 1 skill up per 40 combines? I've heard mostly only horror stories of needing 200 combines per skill up, and just making sure i'm adequately stocked before i start.

On average, you should get 1 skillup in 30-40, in my experience. This means you should have enough silk. 160 chains won't be nearly enough, though.

Just do your fellow tradeskillers a favour and don't dump all your finished robes at cost in the bazaar in one go....

From what I have heard, expect one skillup per 20 combines.

Of course, 180-210 is a hell range. A vast, horrid no mans land of hell levels.

But cheer up, you should have enough silk!

You'll just start making robes like mad after 200 or so.

Oh, and please tell me you arent on Povar. Please.

Once you get to around 215-220 you will be making so many robes it will make you sick. If you are going the silk route, plan on stocking way more then you currently have. Also, remember that you have to make the normal silk into sacred silk. This involves 1 imbued emerald, 2 celestial essences, and 1 jar of acid. Imbuing 6400 emeralds = 13pp for emerald, or approximately 83,200pp plus whatever the imbuer is charging (say 7pp each for a total of 128,000pp) , or time if you can do it yourself. Add in celestial essence, approx 2pp if you make, or 5p (being optimisitic) if you buy...thats another 25,600pp if you make, 64,000 if you buy. Gem chains can cost between 250-750pp depending on jewelers luck...lets say 500pp for an average. You have approx 2133 combines worth of silk there. Hmm, on second thought 160 may not be a bad approximation... anyway... 160*500 = 80,000pp.

So, for 6400 silks of combines you are looking at a raw cost of:

        Bought All: 272,000

Imbued Emeralds and Made Essence: 188,800pp + carpal tunnel + time

This is, of course, ignoring the cost/time sink of the silk itself.

          RE:250 tailoring on Tunare Silks

I'm doing that now. Above 215 I'm making 1 robe for every 3 combines or so. Your gonna need about 500 more chains for all that silk .

The fun part is putting 20+ robes on your vendor and watching one person buy em all and trying to sell them for 500pp more only you just load up another 20 at the lower price.

I'm about to make a run of 300 combines (im 228 now) hoping this takes me to 240+. I'm expecting to make 100 ish robes. Gonna sell em t break even pricing.

/sigh I just hit 180 tonight. I, of course, know this. But it still doesn't help to see it. So the madness begins...

Thanks for the replies everyone. And yes, I know you need sacred tunare silks, the sacred silks are already all made ) As for 180-212 being the hell levels... a nice twist of fate. 2 Days ago i got Akhevan Shadow Shears (+15 % Tailoring) which means i can get to 212 from cured ethereal energy, which is in HUGE quantaties on vendors, and costs almost nothing. So thats good news, and yeah, I think i'll need some more chains =( Tested the water with robes and went 9/10 on em, rofl

My suggestion, for what it's worth, is to NOT use the shears when trying to skill up on robes. The shears make it more likely for you to succeed. Put them down and back away slowly =p

I don't even use my geerlok when making robes (228 now), coz I make too many of them!

with the shears your problems are pretty much over. you can do Ethereal swatches from 192 to 212, then do whatever you like to get to 222. with the +15% from the shears that puts you at the skill cap of 255. There is no point worrying about getting your skill level higher as it's maxed at 222 with the shears.
                    Congrats ;-)

Has anyone tried if there is difference in combines at skill 250 using different skill raising items? Like Geerlock vs. Akhevan Sheers.

                        OMFG 272,000pp?

For the love of Mike! How the hell did you come up with that kind of jing? And you have silks all made up? 6400 Tunare silks? OMG. Please someone! Anyone tell me what the secret is to earning pp to feed this psychotic obsession I have with tailoring....

2100 combines huh? Given the posts throughout this section you get 1 skill per 20 combines on average. Which means 100 skill ups (give or take). Didn't you say you were at 200? So you got over kill there! Even at the end of Wu's (158) that's more than enough. The problem you will have is the chains. Count on 2-3 successes per 20 combines, that will be 200 to 300 chains... I'm so glad I'm not on Saryn! There goes the Solstice Robe market on that server!

Yeah it was overkill, way overkill actually, average 1 skill up in 14-15 (i think 14.6, mighta been 14.7, it was 14.something).

As for the pp to farm such an extravegant skill up session, well, I was the only smith making missletoe cutting sickles for a few months after the PoTC quest was released, I made a *stupid* amount of money, suffice to say i'll never have to worry about it again, heh.

And as it happens, i'm making a fair amount of money off these robes atm too, i *would* sell them at a loss to get rid of them, but i'm selling at a rate of about 10 a night at 1375 on saryrn, no one else bothering to make them, i got it sweet =D

2600 combines to go from 191 to 241 on baking - since 25% of that was hell level, then yes, I think you've got a reasonable shot at it.
