  • Bonus skill up chance rumor

I've heard from a few sources that breastplates/tunics/robes have a built in skill up modifier but has anyone actually tested this theory?

I'm currently sitting on 254 tailoring and am looking at going fine/excellent to finish my grind to 300 but I'm not sure if I should only make fine tunic patterns to use in making intricate Breastplates for the bonus skill ups?

Can anyone confirm or deny the bonus skill up theory?

I cannot confirm if it is still there, however, in the past the old versions of ornate armor (Master armor) held a 5% skill-up modifier and the old version of Elaborate (Grandmaster armor) held a 10% skill-up modifier. It didn't matter which piece you made. you would get the bonus if you made wristbands or tunics or anything in-between. When the new system was adopted I believe the code stayed in for making the actual armor pieces, but I am unsure. I also don't know if Elegant armor has a skill-up bonus. perhaps somebody with more insight can shed some light?

It can't be determined if Elegant has a skill up bonus, because you can't skill up on Elegant.

(You have to be 300, and thus at max skill and ineligible for skillups, to do Elegant combines.)

it is probably still technically there, though as you point out... pointlessly there.

Until you eventually get around to raising to the skill caps.

Prety sure that without a massive code change, tradeskills can't have skillcap increases beyond 20 more points or so. At least, I remember reading somewhere (and correct me if I'm wrong, Ngreth, as I believe it was you who typed this) that there's a point in the low 320's where it would take a million combines to gain the next skillup, and that it is impossible to get the next skillup.

That is correct. That does not change anything posted in this thread already.

Eventually, Ngreth will need/want to raise the skill caps. It is not coming in this next expansion. When that raise does go in, it will require a reworking of the skill up numbers as it is impossible to go over a certain skill and the previous points were in the thousands.

Wow...1000 posts...where has the time gone.
