  • Excellent Marrow not so excellent

I'd like to have someone if they could explain to me why Excellent Marrow drops in zones where you pretty much have to be 70-75+ in order to survive the zone. Yet the item itself is used to make elaborate level armor? Is it not possible to have this item drop in zones where perhaps those in need of crafting the armor or those in need of gathering the marrow to have a friend craft it, might actually be able to get the marrow? The way it is right now, you're either going to SELL what you find in the bazaar, or you're going to buy what you need in the bazaar. There is no in between here.

There is already a chance to get them off lower level mobs. The chance is less frequent, but if you are leveling up at the same time, you should have a few collected.

Also, you do not have to have a full set of the latest armor to survive in the newer zones. You can easily earn other, non-tradeskill armor, while you are progressing to be able to handle the mobs that drop the parts for to create the upgraded tradeskill items.

      you are mistaken

I have been adventuring on my 65 toon in a 65 hotzone for weeks now and never have I seen an excellent marrow drop in this zone. On Alla's it says it drops off mobs of the 70+ level range, so you explain to me just exactly what zones and what mobs these excellent marrows drop off so that I would already have been able to loot them, and thus avoid buying them in the bazaar? I think you are just calling the sky a different color just for the sake of it without proving to me it really is another color other than blue.

I have had an Excellent Marrow drop in HoH. It is rather rare that it does, but it indeed does.

          corrected

I stand corrected then. At least someone agrees it might be too rare of a drop for the level zone where it is most useful.

It is working as intended. You are not intended to be fully geared in Elaborate armor at level 65. There is a chance (albiet small) you can get an item ahead of time, but not enough to make hunting this area an effective place to gear up.

You are not at the spot where you can most use the armor, it would help you a lot now true, but it is designed to be worn and used as you go into the 70 and up content, not level 65 content.

Recommended and Required levels are in the game to provided the minimum level where these armor items should be used. The reason is because before that time those items are too overpowering for the content.

Also, there are many options available to get the armor now. You can buy the parts you need from the bazaar (but that means having plat, which would mean earning it or buying it, so I'll assume that is not an option, else you would have already done it). You could have higher level friends get the parts for you. You could organize a group or groups and go to the appropriate level zones where the items drop.

I'll save the "risk vs reward" and "no value when it is handed to you" lectures and just recommend taking a deep breath and ask what you want out of the game. Everquest is not an easy game and nothing earned in the game comes without a price.

For one, Did you notice my trades? I'm a 300 tailor, so I make the stuff but I'm forced to buy my supplies in the bazaar from farmers. Ya that helps keep the costs of things down. I invest months into learning a trade with endless hours skilling up and learning the trade, and then along comes Polly with their lucky drops to sell them in the bazaar for exactly what I'm able to sell the armor for to begin with. Hmmmm can't make money as a Tailor, tried it and its not working. Lets try smithing.... Nuts same deal, can't get the Loams to drop where I'm able to farm them because I can now make the stuff - not just wear it. Ok same deal no profit after sinking a million platinum back into the game by skilling up (buying the vendor coals and junk).

Maybe Try brewing or baking, bah.... everyone wants food and drink for free... My 12 bags of crap filled with junk to keep Norrath fed should be worth more than a few K a week don't you think? Bah, Ok, trying Jewel crafting next.... wait they nerfed Dwerium so bad, I'm selling off my own dwerium gear before it even maxes out LMAO... yup bad idea on JC. Maybe Tinkering - nah too much farming on that one or maybe I'll just buy all the stuff needed for AAAAs in the bazaar and charge 3 million per AAAA?

Are you starting to see a pattern here? Don't be a fool into thinking SOE isn't into the Platinum selling business. They want this game to be a big sink hole for time and money so people dont leave. The don't want anyone to actually achieve anything until its pointless to even bother achieving it.

And to re-correct what I posted earlier... NO the excellent marrow DOES NOT drop in Halls of Honor. It was someone just blathering on about something they know nothing about.

Perhaps your post would have been better suited for the Primal Scream section, but a few quick notes if you.

                1) The BEST, and this is pointed out in a couple other threads, the BEST way to MAKE money in the game if that is your intention is to sell TO tradeskillers.

                2) I doubt you have dumped a million plat into "coals and junk" without seeing some return. At 131 plat for the top coal/filament you are looking at around 7000 combines. Since you are complaining about not being able to get/afford parts for the top level stuff, that number is probably much higher.

Now to the comments you make that have nothing to do with the tailoring forum you have posted in.

3)The changes to Dwerium have made the jewelry back to about where it was and also boosted the market for the other metals to be used to.

4)Tinkering farming is not nearly as bad as you think. Oh wait, you don't want to level your character to hunt in the zones the parts drop in. Yes, tinkering would be expensive to make AAAAs for you. For the person willing to put in a little leg work, and gather some supplies, you can probably find all of the tinkering parts except for 2 or 3 on vendors around Norrath. The ones you wont regularly find are drops in POI. As for the other parts, I spent an hour in Corathus Creep and got 10 entrails and another guild member spent an hour in Steamfont and got a bunch of the parts as well.

If you do find the way to make tons of plat without having to do anything or work towards anything, then please let me know as I would love the "easy" way to make plat.

If you have, say, 20k to start with (not hard to do at level 65), and you're already a 300 tailor, then you should be make money buying supplies in the bazaar and selling the results. I've made close to a million pp in the past few months selling eminent symbols, and the vast majority of that involved buying the supplies for under 1k/combine and selling the symbols for 7500/10k per. No, I do not use a /buyer to get stuff - that's just what I can find when I check what people are selling. Being able to leave a vendor up when I'm not playing helps, too, since I don't need to worry about selling at a loss when I happen to be logged in. If it takes me a couple weeks to sell the results of a trade skill run, that's fine.

You CAN find affordable supplies in the bazaar. The caveat is that you have to be patient. If you look and nobody is selling cheap? Don't buy the expensive stuff. Wait and come back later.
