  • Need some guidance

I've spent about 3 hours pouring over information since I last played in PoP. I have a decent understanding of most of it I think, but I am not clear on the new drops.

To utilize the new pelts and silks, what must I have done first? Must I have done the cultural tradeskill tasks for the book(s), or is there some combining I can do for skill ups that don't require any cultural tasks to be completed?

My skill is at 192 right now. I obviously want to start on Natural silk or Rough Skin combines. But what do I make? Do I make armor templates? If so, I guess I need to do the cultural tasks?

To make Revered symbols I need [Crude Silk Template + Crude Spinneret Fluid + (pattern + the water of whichever deity)]

I assume the patterns are cultural?

As soon as I think I have it... it becomes cloudy.

To make templates, you do not need to do any quests. The template recipe only needs 1 animal pelt or the silks, the rest are vendor bought and combined in tailoring kit. The templates can be resold to vendor or saved for making cultural armor. Templates are not limited by race, level, or current skill. These are often used for skilling up.

The pattern requires the quests and there are multiple quests, depending on the symbol levels you want to do (up to your level, can't do Sublime quest for example if you are not level 76+ IIRC)

Armor is race limited and higher level cultural armor are also skill limited (275 for elaborate and 300 for elegant iirc) and requires either spinneret fluid or marrow in addition to more vendor sold good and the armor pattern from cultural quest.

To make armor, you must complete a cultural task for the armor patterns/molds (this task is very easy).

To make symbols, you must complete a cultural task for the patterns. These tasks very in difficulty and are unique for each tier of symbols.

To use the new drops, you need only vendor sold components and the drop. The size of the template determines the number of drops you need. There are other threads in the guides section and in smithing/tailoring that outline the whole setup. You need 1 pelt or 2 silks for smaller slots (bracer, mask, etc) Some require 2 pelt/4silk, and bp/leg are 3pelt/6 silk.

To obtain the recipes, the templates can be experimented as always. Put the items in your tailoring kit and hit combine. The armor and symbols cannot. There are vendors in PoK, AS, and CR that sell recipe books. These have the recipes in them as in-game resources and also can be scribed to give you the complete list of recipes in the tradeskill UI so you do not have to experiment each recipe yourself. To do the armor and symbol combines, you must learn the recipes in this fashion. There is a different book for each tier of armor and each type of symbol. These books are the recipe and you will still need to complete the cultural quest to get the appropriate armor/symbol pattern. There is also a vendor that sells template recipe books. These book provide you the recipes for all the templates of each tier. There are 13 tiers and there are good guides in the Tradeskill Guide section that outline what each tier is.

These vendors are coded to check your current skill and only display items once you have reached a certain skill level. At 0 skill you cannot see all of the recipe books. As you skill up and get close to the range in which you would be working with a tier, the book should be available for you to purchase.
