I am having an awful time! I must be very dull-witted. I want to start the High Elf cultural tailoring. I purchased the books from the vendor in Crescent Reach for High Elven tailoring, High Elven simple tailoring, etc. etc. I opened the book, click on Scribe, ok, book shows that button grayed out. I click done, book disappears. I open my sewing kit...no recipes. Where did they go? I can't find any recipes other than what I already had in the kit. do I have the wrong sewing kit? I am using the collapsible sewing kit. Or what? Very frustrated! lol Thankyou for any help, advice, points to where to find directions, etc. Tunare's Blessings on you!

You also need a sewing kit with 10-slots. There are too many components for the templates and symbols to show in a standard sewing kit so they dont appear there. Save yourself the hassle of trying to remember and just carry the cultural sewing kit since it can also make everything a standard sewing kit makes.Roanne LeFaye

The other thing would be to go back to the vendor in CR or the ones in POK and make sure that in addition to the armor books, you purchase the template books. The templates should show up in your collapsible sewing kit (except legs and bp).Shawlweaver Sphynx on Cazic Thule

Also you have to make your cultural sewing kit with smithing iirc. And your cultural needle. The new recipies should show up there once you search for them.I couldn't find Elaborate recipies even after scribeing the books even tho my skill is 300.You also will not see them untill your skill is 275 iirc:-)

If you were high enough skill to purchase the cultural recipe books, you are high enough to see them in the cultural container (Koada' Dal I think you said).
So... in THAT kit, for the cultural recipes, try searching first for the word SIMPLE, as the first level of cultural that is the most likely to be purchaseable by beginning crafters. The second book is for Ornate, so a good keyword to search the recipes for that cultural tier is ORNATE.
All of the cultural combines require a TEMPLATE. Those recipes come from the books entitled "The Basics of Tailored Armor, Tailored Armor the Next Step, Tailored Armor Step III" etc. As skill raises you can see other steps. Step VI can be seen at skill 125, Step VII at 150, Step VIII at 175 for instance. Various template recipes can be found in ANY tailoring container (collapsed, loom, cultural etc) but only the loom will show recipes requiring six silks (leggings and robes fall into this bracket). Since there are so many templates, it's better to search based on the type of silk - Simple Silk cultural armors are made with Sullied Silk templates. Ornate Silk cultural armors are made with Crude Silk templates.
Hopefully knowing what to search for where will help.
