High elf tailoring

So I'm trying to make High Elf cultural armor using leather. Here is the exact text from the book 'Intricate High Elven Cultural Tailoring'.

It outlines the need for starting with a fine silk or fine leather template, and using malleable koada'dal mithril thread with fine spinneret fluid or hemic marrow in water as a tempering for that thread. The crafter will also need soft filament and an elven needle. Use spinneret fluid with silk, and marrow with leather. It is embroidered using a pattern that can be achieved from instructions in another book.


So I scribed it and only can see Intricate Starglow * made from silk using the Koada'Dal Sewing Kit. Are we missing some recipes? Do I need to use a different container? After wasting a couple hundred silk earlier this week I'm getting frustrated with the new recipes.

Those are for the leather armor... But if it's like drakkin, the silk combine and the leather comebine are called different things hence why you can't find it under starglow. * drakkin silk = crystalweave. drakkin leather = crystalskin

Try just a search for Intricate instead of intricate starglow.

There is no high elf leather armor.

High elves can only be plate or silk.

The armor type restrictions are still in place. If your race has the class option that uses that type of armor, you can make it.

Ogres can do plate, chain, and leather. (War for plate, shaman for chain, beast for leather).
Humans have all 4.
High elves only have plate and silk. (Pal, Cleric, Wiz, Mage, Chanter)
Dwarves have no leather armor combines. (only plate and chain armor).

However, anyone can make templates of any type as those are for skilling up. Also, there is no restriction on symbols. Anyone can create symbols for any race/deity combination that exists.

The books were absolutely generic.

I may need to go in and edit some books later, but if you have no-one in your race that can wear leather, then you will not be able to make leather CULTURAL (you can still make the leather templates all you want, just sell them to an NPC vendor.)

Doesn't that go against the whole point of the cultural revamps? I thought it was to level the playing field between races so that everyone could advance the same. This is distinctly not level. Humans still have twice the number of available skillups as high elves. I'd prefer to make leather armor that is totally unusable (Class: None) to having to get twice the amount of silk because I can't use leather. That would make all of the races even, if they could all produce all types of armor regardless of whether or not they can actually use it.

Simple economics: If I want to buy 1500 silk to level up, it would be cheaper and faster to buy 500 silk and 500 leather since the much higher demand for silk would drive the price up.

ARMOR:

• Race dependent
• Made with Spinneret Fluid/Marrow/Loam

It is balanced in the drop rate as well. Silk drops, currently, at twice the rate as leather and ore on humanoid models. This will change soon to increase the drop rate of the ore to compensate for the fact that there are 2 armor types needing ore for templates.

Being able to make both leather and silk TEMPLATES is the balance of this system. It allows high elf to make leather templates, when they have no leather armor classes. It allows races like ogres and halfings to make silk templates, when they have no silk armor classes. And dwarves, who have only chain and plate classes, can finally do something.

That would be fine except making templates doesn't have any cultural bonus. Making armor at the high end has a fairly large cultural bonus. When you average a skillup every 30 or so combines on a template but can get one every 15 on actual armor then it makes a whole lot of sense to stick to the armor types that you can turn into cultural armor.

If I can get 200 template combines in the time it takes to get 5 armor combines, it makes sense to go with templates.

The balance there is in the drop rate.

Silk/Animal Pelt/Ore is MUCH more common than Spinneret Fluid/Marrow/Loam.


Check the prices in the bazaar.

It is inconceivable to think that every race would know how to make every type of armor if no one of that race wears it. As in, there is no reason a wood elf would know how to make silk armor. Wood elves do not wear silk armor. The "ancestral wood elven armor" book does not know what silk armor is.

If you want equality in all races/armor types, there are symbols. Anyone can tailor a symbol with either silk or leather. Anyone can smith a symbol with Ore.

For superb I agree - its a lot cheaper to get silk/pelts than to get the spinneret fluid or marrow. But trying to make fine templates, its very easy to get hemic marrow and fine spinneret fluid. I have a couple hundred of each stocked up because I can buy them cheaper than a single piece of silk in the bazaar. And since you can get to 300 without going past fine it looked like a really great skillup path. Now I have a whole bunch of hemic marrow that I can't use, but I thought I could because thats what the book told me.

Although taking a closer look at symbols, those might actually be the better route. I don't get 2 chances at success, as I do in the armor, but it does use less of the silk/pelts. I'll have to give those a shot.

Fine I did not think reached to 300.

Excellent is the just above 300 and Superb is 350 range.

That is weird that you got so much fine spinneret fluid and hemic marrow, on ym server those both are going for about double the price of fine and excellent silk and animal pelts.

The symbols are considered cultural though, right?

The symbols are deity specific. Meaning, you can only USE one created for your deity. The water of XXX determines the deity. Anyone could make symbols for any deity.

The armor is race specific. Meaning, the only armor people could make was for their own race and for the armor types that their race could potentially use.

These restrictions still control the combines.

The inequality was in 2 ways:
1) Some races had easier access to "cultural drops" (shissar scales, etc) where others had harder to find ones (great reptile hides, etc). For skilling up, this was balanced by adding the template step. Making them available to everyone of every race of every armor type.

2) There was a disparity between silk, leather, and chain/plate at the armor level. Aside from silks requiring 2 drops to make a swatch to use in the armor, it was uneven drop rates. This was solved by adding the Spinneret Fluid/Marrow/Loam to specific types of mobs as well as the balance (still being worked out) on the humanoid table to balance the drop rate.


Also, consider the implamentation. There are 4 types of armor. There are 4 (soon to be 5) tiers of armor. There are 4 (soon to be 6) tiers of symbols.

That is 4 * 5 * 6 = 120 books. If you then went in and changed the text in each book to be unique for that race, then you have 16 races:

120 * 16 = 1320 new, unique items he would have to create and check through. This is on top of all the template books. Instead, he simplified them down to 1 book for tailoring and 1 book for smithing and 1 book for symbols for each level and used the same language in each item and just changed the names of the books to reflect the appropriate race. It only cut the first count in half (2 * 5 * 6 = 60). And there are still the templates.

Let me be more specific. When I ask if symbols are considered cultural, do they have the same bonus to skillup chance as cultural armor?
