Beginner Tailor's Tropy requires 130 fishing skill?

Is that exactly fair, to make the hardest part of the test another tradeskill? None of the other beginner tests involve anything complex from another tradeskill. In fact the highest trivial in tailoring is only 56.

Am i missing an easier way of getting Fish Oil in order to make the Leather Gorget required?

No there is not an easier route, other than buying the fish oil in the bazaar, or maybe catching one in auction.

It's a fact that many tradeskills require other tradeskills to make items, so like you said, you will need to get the skill up eventually.

Oh, and brewing to 132, SUPER DUPER simple and under 50 P or so..
In POK.. Little gnome merchant outside Pitt bank sells fishing grubs.
Fishing grubs + water in brew barrel make fetid essence.... that's all ya gotta do. took me approx 1.5 hours 0-132 on various toons of mine, it's about the first thing I do for all of them.

I don't have high fishing skill, and it was very low when I did my beginner tailoring trophy. It wasn't that bad though.

I went to Toxx forest and fished until I had a few greengill salmon. I can't recall exactly but I think I fished up 5 or 6 of them. Then I bought a tackle box, grabbed my skinning knife and went for it. I think I had a successful fish egg on the third one. Ended up with two. I've done this a couple of times on other toons as well without high fishing skill. Took a bit of time but not bad.

Bonus, fishing skill improved while doing it.

You don't have to fish to get fishing skill.You can either make fishing flys or buy fish in PoK and some herbs and roots(from Baz) and make fish bones.Can also use the bones to get fleching skill by makeing darts.:-)
