  • Skillups on the Cheap

I have a Halfling Tailor and I want to get his skill to 250. I've done research on cheap combines to get skillups, but haven't had much luck. What's the cheapest path to 250?

There is no cheap easy path to 250, or 300 for that matter.

My best advice is to start farming now and continue farming as much as you can as that is the only cheap path.
One OS to rule them all, One OS to find them,
One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

Cheap CHEAP path to 190 is spider silk filters, 2 spider silk, 1 recluse spinnerret, 1 CE.
Spiders in Goru'Kar mesa drop the spinneretts and silks.

After that, haunt the POK vendors , find Gem Studded Chains for 24p apiece, and make solstice robes to 252

What race are you? Some races got the lucky easy skillup path via Master DoN cultural and that comes with a bonus 5% chance to skillup. But you'd have to do it fast because the revamp is coming.

If your race doesn't use the common and easy farmed ingredients, you may have to settle with having death of about 10,000 othmirs on your head to get enough othmir fur to hit 300 tailoring.

That said, I have no clue what halflings use for tailoring their leather outfits for the druids.

The new TBS tailoring recipes can get you to 300. Dust gets you to 170, pebbles get you to 255. Both are fairly plentiful and cheap in the bazaar.

Sunshard pebbles recipes requiring 3 pebbles come out to about 750pp per combine. Not sure if you would call that cheap

Ah, the lovely othmir. so happy, such good musicians, so reluctant to give me the furs I require of them. You can split your time in SG farming alchemy supplies if you would like to get back into their good graces...

A stack in under 10 minutes in Greater Faydark if you find the loc I posted in colored back pack threads and add them to your map file.

Great reptile hides are fun! Just root or snare every one of the suckers as they FD you and create a chaotic add situation.

Sure dust is cheap, pebbles are not. But then me and you could just differ on the definition of cheap. That or your server doesn't have as greedy of people on it.

The cheapest way to any skill is to farm everything yourself. There are several recipes that do not require any npc vendor bought items and triv around or above 250. Though they can be time consuming depending on drop rate.

The sunshard stuff isn't bad if you have a trader and are willing to wait a while to recoup your costs.

At this point (about 230 tailoring) I'm willing to use any means to skill up, the bonus with sunshard ore for those of us working all the various tradeskills is that the sub-combines are jewel-crafting so I have been skilling up both at once. I've been using the sunshard items to skill up on smithing and tailoring, and eventually will use them for pottery (orbs) and fletching (bows) too.

Sunshard Ore only requires 1 ore and 1 silver for about 480pp, the sellback is about 420, thats 60pp a combine. If in getting 1 skillup every 20-30 combines, thats about a 1200-1800+pp loss per skillup, a price I would pay happily all day long, and then some, for skillups from 250-300
