    Is Spider Silk Filter

    Trivial - 190

    Recipe: 1 Celestial Essence
    1 Mesa Recluse Spinneret
    2 Spider Silk

considered to be a legitimate and legal skillup recipe for tailoring from 158 to 190? If so will there be other recipes (apparently unfound as of now) that will allow for tailoring to be raised even above 190 while farming exclusively in TSS zones?

I would LOVE to be able to skillup tailoring strictly in TSS zones. As it is it somehow felt like cheating to take an alt (ok a level 70 alt!) to Crystal Caverns (non TSS zone!) to farm for Crystalline Silks (but it was a fun break from TSS). Before I use this recipe to get tailoring from 158 to 190 I would like to verify that it is meant as a TSS skill up path, and also would like to know if a TSS tailoring path will exist and how high that path might lead.

I suppose you could use it as a skillup path, but the Spinnerets are not that common. Spider silk is plentiful, and while I personally abhor CE (I made WAY too many of those in the past and prefer to avoid them now), it's vendor-sold and effectively unlimited except by your plat.

The impression that I have got after farming in the Mesa is that this zone, perhaps more than others, is intended to be the farm zone for Tradeskills in a similar way that perhaps the Karanas were.

Animal skins and spider webs are aplenty. The spinnerettes drop on average about 1 in 3 if you kill the 28 or so recluse spiders, and the webs drop almost at 2 in 3, making the Filter a pretty good recipe for skill ups. With the spiderlings and skins and a sewing kit on board you can combine as you run around and end up with a decent pile of padding. There is even a vendor in the Minohten camp to clear out sellable drops.

They might only be grey mobs at 75, but this is a nice zone to relax in when LFG and working on Tradeskills

I got to 190 after a good deal of cleaning out the Cave Mesa Spiders as well as the Mesa and Large Mesa Spiders a bit south of the Dromrek Giant land. It reminded me a bit like farming for shadowscream armor pieces to get smithing to whatever the max for shadowscream is, except that here I was able to make a profit due to the selling of vendor loot that dropped from the spiders.

The grind to 190 was actually fun. Not sure what I'll do over 190 (if anything), but since only 23 skillups are needed to get to the 1400 club (2 for fletching, 11 for pottery, and 10 for tailoring - the other tradeskill values are over 240 and alchemy is around 210), I may put the effort in to reach this milestone.

PLEASE!!! Do not make any such ideas in the minds of Higherlevel players who might just want to skill up thier toons or alts in Tradeskills that the mesa is a place for obtaining the necessary ingredients to do so as there are quest in these zones that need these supplies ALONG with the KILLS not just the loot. It would be an injustice to lower level players who are trying to get their level 45 armour upgrades.

I wish the drop rate was not so good as it is as I have several alts in this range and have already had a tough enough time getting my necessary kills and drops to make my quests, simply because some 70 to 75 figures weeelllll this is a great place to farm several stacks of this or that to either sell in bazaar or for my own use...What's this a level 45 player trying to poach on my teritory,,,NEVER!!!. Tell me I am wrong in this, go on I dare you. You know that I am already right in this.

Any time there is a place where you have to do a quest and it also happens to be a place where tradeskill items drop pretty good you get it this conflict of interest and the higher level who can outdamage the lower always wins. Yes I am going to try yet again to champion the cause of lower level players.

Well I guess other level 70s are not treating the level 45s very well then For me when I saw other people fighting I would buff em up, and if they were trying to get Ursula or Fatoma to pop I'd kill a few extra bears or wolves to increase the odds of popping one. If they were fighting in an area for xp (like when a 41 sk was fighting in the spider caves for xp), I'd either buff em up and leave or just leave depending upon my energy level and/or mood. The caves were open often enough that this did not hinder my skillups in any great way.

I guess I should not be surprised that level 70+ toons are being rude to level 45+ toons. It still makes me shake my head...

and if they just want silk... there are also the widows. The lower level widows should still be a reasonably easy hunt... (the Higher level widows are a different matter)...

Considering how hard some of the stuff hits in TSS zones, even when 'gray', if I want spider silk I will go slaughter in EK, hehe

Just go do the east lake camp in Valdeholm...was there for like 4 hours and left with 3 bags filled with spider silk lol. The mobs there drop 2-4 silks per kill usually.

I was not trying to beat the drop rate in EK, but instead... give a chance to get silk AND exp at the same time... instead of "forcing" folks to hunt grey mobs.

Is nice to see tradeskill folks be able to get exp AND get some of the lower level ingredients at the same time. Farming greyies(formerly greenies) for drops stunk.

                          Thanks.

I have to give this path two thumbs up. I brought my CE and taloring kit with me and cleared the caves and surrounding area (including ones on the ridge to the east). I had a decent drop of silk and spinneret and went from 180-190 in a couple hours. I'd collect 5-10 spinneret and do a run of combines.

Also, if you're looking for spiderling silk, this is the place. When the larger spiders die, the little babies spawn sometimes up to 4 or 5. Each can have a few silks on them. After a couple clearings, I was overloaded with it.

You did well there in that regards big guy, but there still seem to be those who like the easier route they want to do trade skills but the heck with exp, if they want exp then they will go find a group almost every time I take a lower level alt into the zone to do Scout Madu to get the items I need there is some higher level in there just killing willy-nilly and if you got one or two your working on they always seem to just pop off an AE blast close by that kills your mob/s and if you say something then you get " hey, sorry bout that. Musta got caught in the Blast" and then proceed to loot all killed.

Dont get me wrong here I like the drop rate otherwise these armor quests would take even longer as there would still be those higher level people who feel they want an easier farming spot that they can just port to using the GH portal. You dont see them going after the snakes you need unless they Pl'ing a toon and want easy armor, they are after the Spiders and wolves and bears we need for the quest for the pelts and it dont hurt too much they drop nice items for vender foder that can make a low levels pockets start to get heavier. PLEASE!!! DO NOT GET ME WRONG HERE EITHER!!!! I remember the Aqua goblin camps over in Butcherblock and how they got nerfed the items on them sold for plat then the nerf bat came out and bam they sell for copper or a gold or two now... Why because of greed and higher level players who dont care that they are green just that the items they dropped stacked and sold for plat. Another example of the nerf bat hitting is more recent and that is the regular Gobbies in Butcherblock the Blood and heads now sell for a gold or two now where they used to sell for 4 to 5 plat depending on your charisma, and the greenbloods too.

It always just takes a few bad apples to ruin the barrel, and in the process FUBAR it for the lower level players. I guess it is just easier to lower the sell price than it is to limit the level cap on drops and make it to where if you are so much above the mob level you get nada. Trouble with that is then you would get high level "Griefers" just going in there and messing with lower levels and keeping them from the loot.

No matter what you do there is just no way to win when you are low level player who has to compete with the firepower of higher level players not when there is either tradeskill items or plat involved and this instance in TSS has both, and to fix one you wind up fixing both and always it seems to the disadvantage of the lower level, they are the ones who get hurt most as the higher level player will be able to just move on to another frming ground and the lower then has to work harder for what they need .

Please Ngreth do not take this monologue of mine as saying you are doing a bad job, I applaud your efforts and think you are the best in what you do. I am just upset about the slackers out there who will not go hunt in their own level areas for supplies but poach on the lower level players areas and am frustraited by the fact there is really no way to stop it. If you nerf the drop rate you affect both level players, if you nerf the plat sells then you affect really the lower level who have not much else, it is a no win situation.

I guess this all falls on an evening of me taking my 57 bard who I have not played in quite some time to Steeps and am kiting a snake who hits like a mack truck I might add in 4 hits had me down to 20 %. But I get the kite stabilized and have him down to 80 % when a level 75 Zerk jumps in to "help" and cause me to get hit again in the process and then in just a couple of hits takes the now 80% health mob down to 20% , I bee line for zone line knowing I am not going to get this exp kill. When I zone back in and ask him just what he thought he was doing he replies he was just trying to "Help", yeah right help himself to my kill... Oh well; enough from the lower side of EQ ...Later guys.
