Grandmaster combines....

Is it possible to do the Grandmaster combines(ie Swatches and armor)... without doing the GM quests?

The GM quest is only for symbols. All you need to do to make armor is the basic quest (not a task, noob zones, collect 4 components and hand in).

Just a warning, unless you have a group of friends willing to hit those instance missions a lot for a couple days, it will take a long time to get those quest update drops for the GM task. Figure about 20 missions, maybe less.

Not quite, I am almost done it, do the Qeynos one instead of the Freeport.
Lavaspinner spiders more plentiful, easier to get at, and drops eyeballs.... ALOT more frequently. I started one up... and I have less than 30 eyeballs to go... will finish the quest before timer runs out I hope.

Update: I started the quest from Qeynos with lavaspinner spiders... and completed it in one day.

what task are you talking about please, I never finished this GM symbol task because never found people interested in doing DoN instance with only 39 crystals and bad xp when you can do a Nest for 60+ crystals and good xp..

The thing you have to do to finish your GM symbols off is just go in and farm the things you need. Do not do it for the crystals do it to finish the quest. If you are a soloing class Lavaspinners is easily soloable If you have friends to help you get instance. Just stay in the instance until you are done.

Getting even more OT, but...

I recently completed my GM Task, most of it in uninstanced Thundercrest. Was this changed? I always thought only kills/loot in instances worked.

Kill out of instances always counted. The looting had to take place inside instances.
