  • How many Othmir Furs to 295?

Ok I been camping Othmirs for last few weeks (hour or 2 a day) and I've got around 500 furs. Anyone have an idea/guesstimate on how many I would need for a 252 to 295 run? I dont really like farming a couple of stacks and then combines, I tend to set myself a weekend and have a tradeskilling day (mixed in with some housework, TV and kidtime). I have 330 wisdom and an old 5% trophey. Will 500 be enough?

Not unless you get REALLY lucky. With that WIS and modifier, you are looking at an average of 979 combines for 43 skillups. Assuming you do Cap, Moccasins, Cloak progression...that's 3,463 furs.

      You'll start off with a 6.27% chance (1 in 16ish) and end up with a 2.95% chance (1 in 34ish.)

Edit: On a side note...just in case you were wondering, the old vs. new trophy won't make a difference for you. Also, sadly, in this particular case, higher wisdom isn't going to mean a lot, either. You can expect to save around 2 furs per 5 wisdom increase at that level. The best you could do (Wis 400+) is 3433 furs.

252-291 tailoring has taken me 691 attempts with an int of 365. I have mostly done othmir but managed to buy a couple of stacks of reptile hides (master DoN) which got me 6 skill-ups (I am so envious of shissar scale users), about 30 prepared sporali skin for 1 skill-up and approx 6 GM DoN combines for 1 skill-up.
I would therefore guesstimate (850 attempts for 252-295 on othmir only and averaging 3 hides per attempt) 2550 hides needed with an int of 365, so 3000 for your wis possibly?

Holy cow - you were able to buy "STACKS" of reptile hides? Only ones ever available on Saryrn (and usually only 1 or 2 at most) are ridiculously priced at 25k and 30k EACH!!!! Needless to say, they've been there for months and will probably be there for eternity if the sellers don't get a clue. As an experiment I even set up a /buyer at 5k per hide, and never saw a nibble in 3 weeks.

I'm also totally envious of Shissar Scales as the skillup rate on DoN Master's and GM just blows other methods out of the water. I just burned through 2 weeks of farming Othmir, Holgresh and Stormreaper (halfling cultural) and got a whopping 1 skillup

GL out there and just hang with it if you can't do Shissar Scales....."help us Ngreth and fix the racial drop rates soon, you're are only hope".

Yes, only the once - cost me 500p each for 40 iirc. I presumed someone had been doing a lot of killing in VP and unfortunately it seems they havent been back. On AB they only appear as singles every now and then and cost 1-5k.
I half wish I hadn't 'lucked out' on them though as 6 skill-ups for 40 combines made me realise just how much easier tailoring is for some races.

(/grumbles about devs working on shopping malls and tool kits when DoN inequality hasn't been fixed)

If you're concerned about your faction, just dawn a shroud while you kill them. You can kill lots of them, and they wont even remember who you are.

I get a friend to provide me with Othmir fur. I just don't ask where it came from and I don't ask why his bard is in Cobalt Scar.
