  • Which Pelts/Furs/Silks Do You Need?

I recently started a ranger alt that I play as a huntsman (from a roleplay perspective). He is in the business as a fur trader and focuses primarily on hunting animals for their furs, pelts, and silks.

Since this is just an alt for the sake of fun, I don't plan on reaching a high level any time soon, so I am mainly concerned with animals a lone ranger (pardon the pun) could hunt from levels 1 to about 40 or so.

I'm not in this for the money (that is secondary), I am mainly concerned with providing a service to tailors. So which furs/pelts/silks are tailors in need of (that you don't have a ready supply of)?

I would guess HQ bear pelts and HQ Highland Lion Skins would be in good demand, but are there any others?

High Quality Brute Hides and Excellent Sabertooth Tiger Pelts sell well.

And, of course, Rockhopper Hides/Greyhopper Hides.

Don't forget that smiths need leather padding and will probably pay well for stacks of LQ wolf, cat, bear and rockhopper. Espacially if you have the silk thread or shade silk thread in similar quantities.

For that matter, it wouldn't be beyond a good RP to make your "trash" fur into something simple like leather padding.....

I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

I'll second Othmir, but I'm not quite sure how a level 40 would fare against the otter people.

Note that you can use a skinning knife to reduce the quality of a fur, so higher is always best.

Here's my offhand list, in rough order of level (though it can vary a lot for some mobs)

Spiderlings (for spiderling silks) - many newbie zones such as Misty Thicket
Bears (all pelts are valuable, HQ the most of course) - Rathe Mtns is nice
Cats (all pelts are valuable, HQ the most of course) - East Karana is nice
Spiders (silks) - East Karana is ideal once you can hunt there
Rockhoppers (similar to bears) - Dawnshroud is good
Crystal Spiders (crystalline silks) - Crystal Caverns spider tunnel is good
Brutes (hides) - Frontier Mountains is good

---- beyond this you will almost likely need to be > level 40 -----

Tigeraptor (hides) - Wakening Lands (not sure of value on these)
Arctic Wyvern (hides) - Cobalt Scar (good CoV faction is a plus here)
Mastodons (hides) - Western Wastes (good CoV faction is a must here)
Velium hounds (hides) - Western Wastes (good CoV faction is a must here)
