  • determine how much skillups I will have

I'm currently at 210 in tailoring, have a bunch of silk in my bank so I plan to make some solstice robes..
I wondered if there was a way to "know" or calculate an expected skillup gain, knowing that my int is at 415 and that I plan to do 250 combines ?
I remember having seen that for jewelry some time ago on the troll site (don't remember the name)
there was a formula linking your int, your skill, the trivial rate of the item you wanted to do.
but I'm not able to find it again, any hints ?

It's right on the front page... menu item called Calculator.

It would be difficult to calculate your exact odds... because the chance of skillup goes down slightly each time you actually gain a skill.

Assuming a 5% mod (mastery irrelevant because at 415 int you are achieving max chance of success at tailoring even on a failure) you will skillup around once per 11 combines. So 250 combines will probably get you around 21 skillups.

Of course you could have a really good run and get 30. Likewise you could have a really bad run and get 10. There's nothing you can do about that though.

Expect Zero Skillups, that way you won't be too upset when it happens. Then, if you get 1, 2, 10 skill-ups they are a bonus.

      Seriously.

The calculator just gives a hint of an idea about what you can expect. I did 3 batches of EVB's. 2 batches with 300 combines, 1 batch with 150 combines. All on the same day (whoever made the Enchant Velium Scrolls stackable -- i LOVE you !!! ). And i had on average a skillgain of about 3%. The calculator said it would be something like 10% dropping to about 6% closer to the trivial. So there was a 7-3% differenc to the calculator and i defenitely was really disappointed after those runs. So use the calculator, subtract 5% from the result and be happy if you get more then that.

if this helps you at all, its not unreasonable to expect anywhere from 25-30 combines per SU towards 252 (230ish+) prehaps a little Higher 30-32. (the extra 1 or 2 combines can add up quickly. Base on what I went thro-you prob want to have at least 400 combines preped. I know lot less than some here but from what I can see pre 252 the magic avg number (again 225-252ish) seemed to run up to 20-30 pre SU. Wish I had lept little better track ehe> I just farmed hundreds of combines and When It was time-Plowed thro them. I was just glad I made all my goals with barely enough to spare. Im asking the same question in my post except now im into the scarey 252+. Atm I have almost 600 othmir* and 60 or so sundrey high end componets(280-300). And Im already sick of it. And to make things worse(or better) im a prefect class for farming greens. No effort-never run oom or even low, just send pet and watch the hours roll on by and thinking about the hundreds of more hours and litterally the 1000's of components that need to be bought, farmed and assembled......sigh.

By my own estimates I would require 2500-3000 of these furs to make an signifigant dent in the next phase. At the current drop rate 8-10 hours constant effort gets you about 80 of these. Looking at 30 days @8-10 hours per day of nothing but farming greens wo break. Then theres the time to sub-combine the vials The time to assemble and sub-combine say 1700-2000 components parts is hardly trivial either(nor is the cost). Then theres the time of sorting and prepareing for the combines themselves-shuttling from zone to zone etc. combineing them once your actually ready. Of course that doenest even get into the staggering amount of plat that will go into the gems and such......why did I want to do this again for?

0-252 is easy and cheap gets little work oriented 225-252 (think that part took me 2-3 weeks to get everything in place, but its better to do it all in one shot IMO. Figure 30 a point avg and youll be ok

In your place, Necro-Tailor, I would do the combines right now before any of the patches. Thing with EQ is that you NEVER know what happens and I'd rather do all combines right now than get owned by a patch.

I have generally found on average that
              200 to 250, 1 skillup every 25 to 30 combines.
              250 to 275/280, 1 skillup every 30 to 40 combines.
              280 to 300, 1 skillup every 50 combines.

Now, note the "average" in there. if you get combines more often, cheer. If you get a bad run.... sigh, curse the RNG and perhaps pick a different day. Go hug your kid or something in RL to remind you of what really matters.

But that's the chart I use and not bad if you're just trying to figure out how much to buy to reach a target. If I've got 4 stacks of combinables, at 295 I'm hoping for 3 skillups, content with 2, thankful for 1.
