  • Crushed diamond dust

    Is there any chance they would consider making crushed diamond dust a result of a smithing combine of some sort?

    Maybe diamond and smithy hammer in a forge to yeild 3 or so?

    Dust is way too rare, coupled with the lack of viabilty as an iksar cultural tailor.

    Is this reasonable?

    I like the idea. However, given the rarity of the CDD, I would doubt they would allow 3 yield from a single Diamond. More like 10 Diamonds to a single CDD. I could live with like 3 Blue Diamonds to a CDD. That would be more fair I think given Blue Diamonds are used for other tradeskills like high end JC and cultural smithing the demand is still very high. So 3 for 1 exchange I could live with.

      *chuckles* Crushing Diamonds down would make my life insanely easier, however, I do believe it would misbalance the rate of which the intend masters gear to enter the markets.

      I can't say I agree, but given that the intent from what I read has been to skill on usable items that people have demand for, I can see why there hasn't been any useless "Here's an easy way to 300" recipes. Given that they look at the farming for something useful vs skill gain, that also explains why the drop rates can be rather slow.

        The devs have already acknowledged that CDD drop rates are severely imbalanced (as well as several other cultural drops). However, Ngreth and Maddoc have also stated a few times that they're planning on rebalancing ALL the cultural drops, not just one here and one there. Only problem is, it's not going to be for a few months yet.

        As a personal observation, I've noticed that all the devs (not just our tradeskill devs ) have been focusing less on current issues over the last couple of weeks, which in the past has been indicative of a strong push for a new expansion. Historically, a new expansion comes out around February each year, give or take a couple of weeks. This ties in with Ngreth's comments about a few months, suggesting that he won't be able to pay much attention to fixing tradeskill issues until the next expansion is out.

        The upshot of all this is that we have to be patient, I guess.

          Agreed

          I too agree CDD is way to rare. I was thinking perhaps they could make a quest, soloable of course, where at the end you would get a stack of CDD. I don't know just trying to think of ideas to make tradeskilling a bit more friendly!

            One way I think that'd make sense is to allow you to break any kind of 'diamond' on the Velious gem table into Crushed Diamond Dust, i.e. Flawed/Flawless/whatever Diamond.

              Blue diamonds are hard enough to scrounge up, but I do see a lot of regular diamonds floating on merchants just begging to be crushed.

              Although, using the velious gems seems like a good idea, since they're not good for much else but junky armor.

                As if the issues have not been know shortly after DoN went live.

                  Isnt this what we always hear?

                  What about the problems that still linger from prior to DoN? Did the cultural paths get fixed when DoD was released? Nope.

                  Why should we expect that time will be made tomorrow for yesterdays problems, when there wasnt time today?

                  The problem is that dollars dictate. Paychecks come from producing more output, not from "wasting" resources correcting work that was already done.

                  Its all about keeping the machine rolling. Its not about how well it runs.

                  Its too bad that the players care more about the product than the producers.

                    the best I can say is that, though I am tasked to work on the expansion... I am dedicated to tradeskills. Absor and Maddoc had to do normal content AND tradeskills, getting less time to do "between" things. I am currently dedicated to just tradeskills. So once I am done the expansion stuff, I can start on the drop issue. I was too new to really get in and fix it between DoD and this expansion, I was still learning how to do things. Things that take me 30 minutes now, took me 2 hours then, etc... so I just did not get much farther than some very good research that has me prepared to make the drop changes in probably about a week. But I need that week to do it;

                    But yes.

                    We are a business. businesses must make money. I am not saying we would necessarily go broke, but I am saying that there is not money in fixing old content.

                    But saying we never go back and fix any old content is also just not true. We just do not necessarily fix it at the pace players desire.

                      I'd pay you to fix old content.

                      Guess theres not enough of me.... where's that cloning machine?

                      Actually... I'd pay good money for there to NOT be a new expansion... I'm still trying to digest DoN much less DoD.

                        Hell, we are paying them to fix old content ... as well as to finance the new.

                        But, I guess it's pointless to keep asking. Just a matter of hoping Ngreth can finish what they're making him do as soon as he can, so he can get back to fixing the problems we've got now like they should've done months/years ago.

                        Hopefully, now that someone who really cares about tradeskills is there, we'll see fewer problems overall and quicker resolutions to any we do find.

                          The old content that is broken was once new content that we paid for back then.

                              ::News Flash::
                              SOE announces the follow on to the ever popular Depths of Dark Hallows with The Next Expansion. Since the initial release of Everquest more than six years ago users have been anxiously awaiting all the features and fixes that have been said would be included in The Next Expansion. Well, here it is. TNE will have all the features and benefits that come with The Next Expansion (yes, i know that's reflexive). The other good news is that once TNE is released, the SOE devs and such can go back to work on all that stuff they've been putting off until after The Next Expansion is done.
