  • Need advice 3 ways to skill up

Well, (big breath) I'm gearing up now for the path from 252 to 300.
I'm almost finished with the don task 80 claws 120 killed drakes to make grandmaster items and now will have 3 paths to skill up on and I lack exp here on the drop rate of certain items.

    1) The tried and true path of making othmir caps/cloaks etc needing up to 4 furs per combine. I've never killed an othmir, but with my ranger 70 epic2.0 etc I can slaughter them pretty fast and should keep the 3 camps cleared. Whats the drop rate per hour ??

    2) Tunarean Scout - The only item here that is a concern is the excellent sabertooth hides. With track 300 I'm sure I can speedily kill every cat in the zone. Only showing overthere as location, but thought loio has them too. Any try this route??

    3) Master's Brambleborn -- shissar scales is whats needed and do have 2 stacks I saved not knowing what they were needed for. The zone ssra I am familar with and handling 3 mobs at a time is not difficult..

So....what i need to know is the drop rate you have experienced with excellent sabertooth pelt, shissar scales, and othmir fur

    Appreciate any help on this...

I'd go the Shissar route, at least until the droprate is decreased. You get the bonus chance of skillup, very minor XP, and less competition, along with reasonable droprate. As a slightly pre-2.0 ranger, I can plow through em pretty quick, too, so you should have no problem.

      excellent sabertooth drop rate

Jut spent an hour in ot and recieved 2 excellent pelts so this way is out for sure. Appreciate the input on scales as im heading there next. Some exp, cash and possible spell drops makes this more ideal.

The other nice thing about Shissar Scales is that they're used to Smith Master level Augments. So you could easily sell a few on the side to pay for skilling up.

Scales only drop off snakes with clothes on. Nekkid snakes are casters and seem to drop only spells and Undead shissar scales.

If you happen to kill a Commander mob, /ooc the idol or key. They are required for people trying to push further up into ssra and for eventually getting the key to Vex Thal.

            scales drop

Just wanted to update the drop rate on scales. I was clearing out both com 1 and center section before they repopped. In that hour I was there received 7 spells and 20 plus scales and one commander popped which i ooc and a group gladly came over and looted it. This will be my new home for the next few weeks spending at least an hour a day there. I'm figuring at least 1000 scales so have my work cut out for me. thanks for the replies

When I was farming Shissar Scales, I always think of it as 'need 1000 more to get to 300'. This seems to hold true even at 299!

I ping pong between Ssra and CS/WW, depending on my mood. Somedays I sweep through the othmir camps before scouring WW clean of hounds and mastodons, then move to Ssra for a bit. Mastodon cloaks sell pretty well and help defray costs, though I tend to bleed plat all over PoK in my rabid quest to score 300's across the board. Other Velious fur items do not sell well at all and usually end up in the bottomless pit the tribute masters collect items in.

The last 22 points of tailoring are the points I am least looking forward to once I finish Smithing.

I considered this path, and the Shissar Scales are easier to get then Othmir or Holgresh.... But with 1000 Shissar Scales you will need 1000 Crushed Diamond dust. Do you know of a good place to farm "Crushed Diamond Dust"?

You only need CDD to make symbols... the path under discussion is making wood elf master level armor which does not require CDD.

Is that open to all races, or is it wood elf combine only?

Im iksar and it looks are though there are no viable ways to 300 atm for us.

                        Iksar's aren't so lucky.

This post explains the Dragons of Norrath Cultural Iksar Quests. At the bottom is a little table that shows the ingredients Iksar's need. Unfortunately, no Shissar Scales for you.
