I have been away from the game for a year or so and wanted to know if there was any new wisdom about getting from 158 to 200? I am a monk and I will need this for my epic. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

If you're human.... you got lucky and have an easy path. If not, it's going to be very hard.
Basically, for human tailoring, all you need to do is talk to the Human Task Giver in Qeynos to get the quest for the Ancestral Human Culture book. From there, go to ssra and farm the live snakes to collect shissar scales.
Combine is (short hand info, look up master's sagacious for more indepth information):
Shissar Scale + Small Spood of HQ Thread + Antonican Needle = Master's Saga Swatch
Master's Saga Swatch + Pattern for Human Sleeves (triv 290) + Antonican Needle + Large Spood of HQ Thread
Shissar can drop up to two scales at once. You can see where this becomes a very easy route to explore. -

Good luck, Shim...I was gifted 400 drachnid silks and 400 shissar scales and if you are not careful, you can blow through even that many too quickly. When you get your patterns, throw away the legs, tunics, helms, and boots unless you actually want them for someone. Is there a cheaper place to get the spool of thread? 20 plat an attempt is okay for 60+ but I'm only 35 and was hoping to use the human journeyman recipe to skill up on.Comment

For skilling up that has to be the worst advice ever given. You are currently at 158 so if you want to run cultural you would be better off doing the Expert level gear until 222 as you will have a better chance of success and with the stats raises recently on cultural it does sell, even if it is slowly.
But to be honest I have veared away from using cultural to skill up simply because of the exorbant cost of the supplies. My 58 beastlord is being bombarded by requests for Vah Anima GM armor and he currently has a skill of 200 which means GM = No chance right now. Currently I'm working acrylia reinforced for skill ups, which triv at 242. There are some other lower acrylia items that can be used for skill up.
Read the guides at the front of the site is my recommendation.Comment
