  • Any suggestions post LoY Ribbons?

Hi all. I've been a lurker for some time here. Compared to most on the site, I'm a TS newbie, but I have brewing at 300, and all other TSes maxed at 200 except for Tailoring ( I haven't spent any AAs in TS yet ).

Anyhow, I recently maxxed out on LoY ribbons, and I'm looking for skillup paths to get me to 200 for now. I'm a lvl 70 Necro that is EP flagged, so I can farm a lot of things relatively easily, but I don't have a lot of pp to spend. I've been slowly farming up some wyvern hides and cod from CS. Figure I'll be using them eventually here. Been putting off killing Othmirs for now so I can sell to em, but maybe I should start slaughtering the lil buggers....

Anyhow, any suggestions from the community?

    Cadmium

BTW - I sold the LoY ribbons I made, then discovered I could have used them for Robes. I'm not likely to throw away the pp on more of them, but if that's the best way, then so be it....

Realized I didn't mention my skill level. Currently at 180 something... 182 I think it is.

Might look at expert DoN armors ,not sure what DE's need but i'f your lucky its only HQ cat pelts. Also reinforced and studded acrylia is an option.I'd stay away from solstice robes for now as they are 300ish pp a pop.GLuck and happy tradeskilling:-)

I'd suggest anything you can get your hands on.

LoY robes if you have them.
DoN tailoring if you have it.

Save the wyvern/drake etc until after 242 if your LoY options are good enough.

I did a lot of studded and reinforced acrylia armor at that level. Not too bad farming the bricks and you don't need anything special for the temper like you do for Velius leathers.

On the contrary, this is what I'd suggest. Go farm some nameds in a zone like WoS (I hear you can make great pp here, and I also hear 70 necros solo very well). Sell the stuff and do solstice robes. 300pp per is a pretty decent price. I wish I hadn't already maxxed out solstice robes. I prefer definite paths to ones with hard-to-farm drops.

A well geared and AA'd necro could solo NC named, but not WoS named. While it is possible for a necro to solo in WoS, it's just trash; trash that can drop Scoriae, but that's hardly something to rely on.

As for suggestions, if you bought 200 research before it was nerfed, might want to look into farming Runic Parchments and making GoD spells to sell in the Bazaar. You'd have to grind 18 AAs for Arcane Tongues 3, but, depending on your server, could easily get 30-50k per spell.

Hum. I knew a necro who could solo almost any MPG single-group named and a few minor raid mobs (not in MPG), but he was exceptionally good.

Difference there is most mobs in MPG don't summon, including some of the named. I assume you mean old world raid targets? Definitely within a necro's abilities.

Perhaps the necro in question was decked in Anguish/Tacvi gear, which means he could be able to solo WoS named, even though they summon; don't know, I'm not in that kind of gear and I've never seen a necro in that kind of gear give it a try.

Regardless, WoS is not the safest place to make cash. I haven't farmed Acrylia Caverns lately, but perhaps some of the drops there still sell well as twink gear. Can get acrylia for more skill ups, and the Etched Runes and Filth-Covered weapons always vendor nicely.

You didn't mention your race. But if you can find one of the robe recipes that has a relatively common drop component, then do robes. That's what I primarily did until the 235 range. For me, my easy component was runes of Astral. I farmed the bazaar regularly for them. And robes make great tribute.

I did expert from loy trivial to 222 (expert trivial). I did not regret it. It was fast, easy and cheap: gloves -> arms -> bp/leg aug. I did augs for the final bit so I never used more than 1 swatch, but you would need lambent stones. Otherwise, it's 3 swatches per combine.

I did solstice robes next to 252 (also got some JC imps as well). Very time consuming & expensive but it's all store bought.

I'm doing othmir currently. It is very painful. I guess if you have been selling the furs that you are familiar with the drop rate. The easiest combine, triv 262, is 2 furs. Up to 268 triv is 3 furs, and up to 295 is 4 furs per combine. That's just painful as the skill up rate drops from ~5% to ~3% over the course of that 262 to 295 run at 4 furs a try. I'd hold off till you don't have any other real options.

                      I have a question:

What do you do with expert's cultural after you make it?

Do you all destroy it or attempt to sell it? I tried to sell some pieces really cheap, but they don't sell very well (and you can't sell to merchants or tribute either).

Also do you think symbols (augs) are a good way to skill up path to 200 too or should I not even bother? From what i can see just forage or get drachnids silks and the other stuff is buyable except from the lambent stones?

i've been skilling primarily on LOY robes past 187 (since i remembered to keep some of the ribbons, anyway). i make enough expert DoN stuff to stock my trader and it does sell but not fast. the expert symbols even sell, which surprised me, being lower level and all that. but i hate to destroy my work, so i do mass combines of things that tribute well (LoY Robes) or vendor, and make just enough to sell of things that don't vendor or tribute.

i can't figure out why the DoN cultural doesn't tribute, what the heck?

also, i have despised tailoring since Day 1, 6 years ago, and suddenly my main got a wild hair to start working on it. *daydreams wistfully about all those othmir hides she sold 3 years ago while hunting otters* i thought smithing was painful and it was, but this is worse =p

I just let it drop onto the ground when my bags over-flowed, and destroyed the rest.

I'd save augs till last. Both armor and augs use 1 swatch but the armor uses the threads instead of lambent stones - threads being cheaper than the ~50pp that lambent stones cost, unless you farm them. If you want to farm the lambent stones, then knock yourself out. There is also the cost of the diety water as well when you go the aug route. I also here that the HG's of Rathe Mountains are/were missing? If so, that puts a crimp on the lambent stone supply.

Using the cultural threads is much easier since they are store-bought, imo, making armor a better path than augs as long as the combine only uses 1 swatch. Anyhow, any of the options aren't bad. Whatever works best for you.
