  • DoN Master Cutlural Hides/Silk Rarity and unbalanced drop rates for each Race........

heres the list of all races cutural hides/silk.

    Dracnid Silk-iskar
    Great Reptile Hide-Halfing,Half-Elf
    Ice Silk-Froglok
    Nightmare Aracnid Silk-Gnome,Dark Elf,Eurdite
    Shimmering Ukun Hide-Barbarian,Troll,Ogre
    Shissar Scales-Wood Elf,Vah Shir
    Storm Volaas Hair-High Elf,Human

Drop Rates/Rarity of each type seem to be very unbalanced.
Shissar scales- a stack + per hour--only drops off shissars in Ssraa (the grey?)
Nightmare Aracnid Silk- about a stack per hour give or take--only Drops off high level spiders in PoN.
Dracnid Silk-about a stack per hour give or take--only drop off dracnids in Dreadlands or FV
Ice Silk-1 to 6 per hour--only drop off ice burrowers in Western wastes
Shimmering ukun hides-1 to 6 per hour--only drops off ukuns in BF,NC and Rcod might drop off any ukun in OOW. but ive never seen them drop except in those 3 OOW zones.only 6 to 8 ukuns in any OOW zone that i have seen as well.
Great reptile hide-1 to 4 per hour--only drops in CT off Racnors? ToV?
Storm Volaas Hair-1 to 4 per hour--only drop off Storm Giants in PoS

this is from me farming them or based on what others have said when farming them.
as you can see its way out of wack on Rarity and drop rates.

im a barbarian and im stuck at 295 tailoring because of it.i need about 300 to 400 shimmering ukun hides to get 5 skill ups, which use 3 hides per combine after 290.it took me 6 months just to get 200 ukun hides.for only 3 skill ups.that was with that so called 5% bonus /em rolls eyes.
if it wasnt for othmir fur i would still be stuck at 265.which is soon to be nerfed.so all were left with is DoN master cutural.(not even gonna add PoP tailoring, thats beyond rare to even skill on)
3 ukun hides per combine when i barely am able to get 2 or 3 an hour.seriously it will take over a year to ever see 300 to 400 shimmering ukun hides.
unless someone out there can tell me of a good spot to farm shimmering ukun hides,im at a brick wall.Tradeskills were never fun but at least you felt you were accomplishing something when farming the stuff, even if it was green con mobs.
Tradeskills now are just utter frustration, when you sit in a zone for hours and see 1 or 2 drops or even none at all.you really do feel like you wasted your time.

i wish they would up the drop rates or add them onto the same type of mobs in other zones.IE. shimmering ukun hides should drop off all ukuns in both OOW and GoD.Storm Volaas Hair should drop off Storm giants in BoT as well as PoS.etc....

or just give us all shissar scales and be done with it. lol

    Listen,

SOE put in DoN cultural as an option for skillup. I know, cause I used it to lvl tailoring. Then, you run into expert/master/grandmaster, and the drops are horribly rare.

And DoN is the only way to lvl to 300.

So....when you need 200-300 on an item to get 4 freaking skillups, there is a problem here.

The gear made at grandmaster isn't even that good.

So there shouldn't be a bottle neck that large. I've said this all along.

Drachnids should drop only drachnid silk, ukuns should drop their hides everytime. I mean....they all have hides right?

The drops for these need to be revamped, it's currently not possible for people to lvl if they want.

I think Iksar use some kind of Great Reptile things too. Drachnid is for Expert armor.

Getting 300 isn't meant to be easy, and since Grandmaster armor has elevated fail rate on them to begin with, having a high skill doesn't even matter very much. I estimate Grandmaster BP/Legs have a min 25% fail rate which means with Mastery 3 you only need 286 modified skill to make them as well as anyone else (386 - 286 + 50 = 50% chance to fail, mastery drops it to 25%). So there isn't any particular advantage for being at higher than about 270ish tailoring (with 5% mod) compared to 300. If you're doing it just for the sake of accomplishment, then there's no reason why it can't be as hard as the game wants it to be since there is no in game disadvantage for not hitting 300.

That said Shissar Scale drop rate is a bit out of whack relative to other stuff, but then I think Pile of Gravel drop rates even it out on the smithing side at least for humans.

The thing is it's all across the board. Look at the Human Expert armor. It takes HQ Cat pelts. Compare that to Troll/Ogre that need HQ Bear pelts.

You can easily farm 2 stacks of hq cat pelts an hour in ek. Find me any place in game where you can even get 1/2 stack of hq bear pelts in an hour. Let alone 2 stacks. I've actually been fairly lucky if I can get 1 1/2 in a 4 hour period. And this is before 200 even.

All that to say, its just rediculously out of balance all around. I cannot believe they are contemplating reducing the trivials on othmir. Just crazy.

Do they really care that little about how big of a time sink this will be. Why is it that so many like tradeskills in WoW/EQ2, and absolutely hate them in EQ... The answer is simple, absolute thoughlessness in its implementation. It should NEVER take longer than 3 hours per skill up for any tradeskill over 250. Even at 3 per skill up, that is still 150 hours. The gear in tailoring certainly is not worth it.

You can make anything you ever want to wear/sell with about 270 skill and a 5% mod and Mastery 3 with as high a success rate (estimating GM BP/Leg at 25% min fail rate) as anyone else.

So I don't know why people complain this is a timesink when the advancement only exists for the sake of advancement. It's just like having 1200 AA doesn't provide any significant advantage over say, 1000, but it takes that much longer to get 200 more AAs. In this case, having a skill at 300 doesn't provide any advantage unless you want to get used to combining stuff without a geerlok.

Iksar and Human tailors get two options in DoN -- both silk and leather. Iksars can also use ice silk, Humans can also use shissar scales. Both of those races get good research-robe recipes as well, so they're among the luckiest.

A stack+ of shissar scales per hour? Which camp are you doing? It'd take me close to 3 hours per stack and that was keeping the entire entrance areas clear.

you can get great croc tooths in ponightmare as well, farming nightmare silks is not as easy as one would think. the stupid hatchling traps are retarded. also when the terror matriarch is up you can forget about 2 spiders righttheir.

After a while you do learn where the traps are. Even knowing where they are though, I would say I trigger then around every 3rd to 4th pull by pure mistake, so they are tricky.

As for the Infernal consorts (Terror Matriarch's bodyguards), they can be pulled without her aggroing (Can also split them if needed)and then you can kill the two beyond that easily.

But I agree, the camp in general is a pain due to the crappy little adds. Those Ghastly bats are *amazingly* good at interrupting spell casting.
