  • Drachnid Silks revisited: Iksar Cultural Armor - DoN

    So...

I'm currently a 135 Tailor, looking to get about 200-250 before I start my attempts at my Grandmaster Iksar Necro Robe.

I was planning on doing cultural all the way up to lvl, but I found that the Drachnid silk is incredibly rare.

I had 3 foragers in Dreadlands for 4 hrs and managed to forage 6 total Drachnid silks. I killed over a hundred spiders in DL and FV AE'ing them, and got about 140 spider silks and 4 drachnid silks.

So...what looks to be the best skillup path to get to where I want to be?

Also, how many attempts at the GM robe will it take to succeed? And at what lvl should I even DARE to try the attempts?

    Cheers!

Drachnid silk isn't rare, really -- just massacre the drachnids in the Dreadlands and Firiona Vie, on either side of the tunnel/zone line connecting the two zones. I was able to get about a stack of the stuff in a few hours or so of occasionally killing drachnids just in the Dreadlands (I was camping that silly skelly for the VP key quest, killing drachnids out of boredom). I think you just got unlucky there. =/

I agree with it being a common drop in The Dreadlands but it does seem to be far less common in Firiona Vie.

If you want to farm it The Dreadlands is the place to be.

I AE'ed the spiders in FV...for over an hour.

No drachnid silks....like I said. I found 4 when I switched over the DL. However, because the spiders are called Drachnids.....wouldn't logic dictate that they would drop drachnid silk only?

          Something I noticed in DL...

The drachnids I killed around the edges of DL (ie in the wooded parts) dropped few drachnid silks, while those I killed in the bare area around KC dropped more, sometimes a lot. Also, the drachnids with red thoraxes dropped more than the dull colored ones. Hope this helps.

I often have Dreadlands to myself to farm drachnid silks. I hit all 3 camps and the roamers between and usually walk away with about one full stack per hour. Maybe a 1/3 drop rate of regular spider silks/drachnid silks. Tried FV once and only once, not even worth the time.

There are 3 static spider camps in DL. Lots of silk drops. Standard farming rules - kill all camps - by the time camp 3 is dead, camp 1 is getting ready to repop (20 min pop?). For Tailoring, this is a dream farm.

That being said, there are other options from 135 to 188. I think expert DoN takes you to 222

Whats an easy cheap method to 188?

                If not DoN anyway...Ribbons?

Culteral ribbons is a pretty easy method to 188. Cheap is a matter of perspective. Platinum ribbons are 105p each for the base ribbon + cost of the dye (if you don't want to farm it). Gold ribbons are around 35p, and silver ribbons are cheap.

If you farm everything yourself, acrylia studded armor is a far cheaper path. But, I found doing ribbons to be much easier to get lots of training combines than farming acrylia, so it was my path of choice. And since I'm a race that makes culteral robes, I kept all the ribbons I made for robe combines after 188.

If you want to skill quickly, steamfont water (white ribbons) are pretty easy to farm. (Common drop from Kobalds in Steamfont, and it's also foragable).

Ribbons are tradeable, so you can sell your wares in the bazaar to recoup your costs if you can't use them yourself. However, you'll probably find more demand for the ribbons made from the harder to farm dyes.

At what lvl can I attempt the Cultural Grandmaster Robe?

I mean....I know I can try now...but I have a VERY low chance of success.

Should I get the 50/50 AA now? With a geerlock it would give me a base 60% chance to create the item. No?

I don't mind farming enough for 20 combines, I can handle that, I just want to make sure I'll be successful at least once.

I will stop as soon as I can successfully make one, that's the only reason I've doing tailoring atm, but enjoy it, and plan to raise it later on when I have more game time to dedicate to it. Currently, leveling and AA's take priority.

Wow, I must have had incredible luck, I pulled in close to 2 stacks of drachnid silks an hour in dreadlands on three separate occasions. Don't jinx me!

Well, last night....I cut through the 3 camps, and farmed some out in the center and ended up with a total of "about" 70 silks. That was on two seperate occasions last night of about an hour a piece. So yes, 35 an hour sounds about right.

Am I ok with that? No, I ended up with 135 spider silks. Drachnid spiders should drop only drachnid spider silk.

It's logic. But what do I know....

Those 70 silks BTW at 140 got me 7 skill ups.

                        With a 305 INT.

NOT happy with that either. Think I'm going to do the ribbons. I have 3 druid bots with 200 forage. I'll toss em in Lavastorm and forage up some Ashweed to make the dyes.

I used to have like 500 on my Rogue alt (Grandmaster Brewer) to sell in bazaar when LOY came out....I just vendor trashed them all like a month ago for PP.

If you are going to forage, do so in DL. You get drachnid silks for skills, honey berrry for ribbons, and lillies for selling to shaman (lets the go to 300 skill).

Maybe I'm missing something, but assuming you're needing 2 silks for a swatch, and 1 swatch per combine, you got 7 skill-ups in 35 combines from 2-ish hours of farming and that has you upset? My math must be waaay off....If my numbers were right I'd be dancing a jig and heading back to DL for an all-nighter
