Half Elves Screwed Again?

Was looking at the various ribbon recipes and the robes you can make that use those ribbons. Figured this would be a good way for me to get from 163 to 182, and then have ribbons to skill up on the robe combines. So I start looking through the various recipes, trying to find which would be the easiest to skill up on...correct me if I am wrong, but do all the robe/ribbon combines require you be a specific race, and there is none for half elves? If this is the case, do the various illusions work for getting the patterns?

The ribbon combines are available for everyone. The robes are race specific. And I believe that there are more races that CAN'T make robes than CAN. Vah Shir here (and Troll alt)...no robes for me. :\

All in all, I just wish there were more balanced cultural tradeskills in general. The new armor is definitely a step in the right direction. But some races have it "easy" and some don't (if you consider foraging for tufts of fur, etc. "easy").

The robes (wearable by INT casters), can only be made by races that have INT caster classes.

Illusions will not help.

You may also want to consider Half Elf DoN cultural armor at this stage. Expert's Runeseeker items (Wristband, Gloves, etc.) require 1 HQ Cat pelt as the only farmed component (in addition to getting your cultural book) until you reach a skill of 212. HQ Cat pelts are fairly common in Eastern Karana.

Stonebrunt is a good place also if you have the level. No ruined pelts ever drop off cats.. And you can always sell the MQ/LQ ones to make some cash.

Depending on bazaar prices on your server (or that day), you may also consider converting the LQ/MQ pelts to HQ. The Dar Forager ... (forget the name) NPC in Gukta (formerly Grobb) will accept 3 LQ pelts (wolf, cat, bear) and return a MQ. He will give the same deal for 3 MQ -> 1 HQ pelt. Of course, this involves having a character who is accepted in Gukta. My troll has to go through my wood elf alt to get HQ bear...

Don't talk to me about half-elves having it rough with tailoring. Since HQ bear hides make backpacks, they're more expensive to get. I wish I could find some high level bears who take good care of their hides... My troll is currently farming acrylia in Acrylia Caverns and using the money from selling the vendor fodder to buy superb rockhopper hides. Someday, when I finally hit 188, I will run away and pray to never see anything made out of acrylia again! I used to think that when I got to this stage, I would make acrylia cloaks or something that sold better than the masks. It turns out I'm limited by acrylia much more than by the hides, so I'd rather dump the masks than have to farm 2-5 times as much acrylia. On the upside, outer AC is mostly still DB to a 60 BST, so I'm making decent AAXP.

Im curious. Since you guys say that the master cultural is a "good" way to get skillups for tailoring. What pharmed components are needed? Im a half elf paladin. Can't find the recipe's for it .

Great reptile hides are needed for half elf Master cultural, so no, its not a good way to skill up. (see great reptile hides initial reports thread).

And Dwarves are really screwed for tailoring. No robes and no DoN recipes. I believe Dwarves are the only race with no DoN tailoring.

That's because dwarves can't play classes that wear tailored clothes (nec,wiz,ench,mag,dru,bst,mnk).

Troll would just like to recommend Nedaria's landing as a place to hunt for HQ bear skins. Them seem to take care of their hides better than most of the bears in Norath so far as Troll has been able to tell.

The bears in perma drop some odd polar bear pelts (not used for anything, btw), as i remember.. but if you can stay alive, they are good exp at 60. Given the available gear now, survival shouln't be too difficult. You do want to be aware, there is an Ice Witch, and a named Tentacle down there now that are NOT pleasant at that level.. read as, cr's are not pleasant.

Dorfs have no LoY robes because they don't have a class that wears robes (same as half elves); they don't have DoN tailoring because dorfs have no class that can wear silk or leather (similaly, dark elves do not have a DoN leather tailoring set.. as, no one would be able to wear it); in addition, dorfs are already really screwed cause they're dorfs (all dark elves think this point should be obvious.. one i reiterate to one of our dorf warriors every chance i can).

Pssst, Moraganth, think you meant silk and *leather*. Most dorfs wear cast-iron diapers from the get-go, but there's not a one that uses primarily silk or leather armor.
