  • Large races and tailoring

Is it just me or is there just not much out there for large races (Ogre, Troll, Barbarian, Vah Shir) to do with tailoring?

As best I can tell, the only thing they can uniquely tailor is leather armor for beastlords of their race. Is that going to allow for a large enough market to make it worthwhile for those races (particularly those whom aren't beastlords) to delve into tailoring?

None of those races can make the LoY robes. So, those robes are not a viable skill up route. None of them have old world cultural tailoring, just smithing. As best as I can tell, their only route is to do the ribbons (which any race can do), then acrylia, then DoN cultural (maybe solstice robes).

It's kind of obvious that SoE didn't look to carefully at the cultural tailoring as the mastery level tailoring (for trolls at least) required drops from VP (a zone that's supposed to be on par with elementals).

I'm not sure if my rambling's going anywhere. But, apart from being the only 250+ [troll/barbarian/ogre/vahshir] tailor on your server, is there any incentive to pursue tailoring if you're a large race?

Same deal for wood elves, no INT casters = no robes = no easy tailoring skill-ups. We have it easier in the fletching department though, so it evens out for us.

      Ogre Beast Tailor

I would agree that there are not many cultural tailoring recipes to benefit an ogre beast at least. Currently at 217 tailioring and pursuing DoN master level armors for future skill ups. All in all I would say DoN armor have been a huge help though. Velious armors and solstice robes are just too expensive and chew up a lot of inventory slots trying to build up stock in the subcombines.

The Master level armors and aug's start to get good, and I may actually wear some of the items that I make. (crazy isnt it?)

While wood elves are in a semi similar situation, it's not quite as bad for them. Even though 4 races can be druids (hum, elf, halfling, halfelf), it seems that at least 40-45% of the druids that I see are elves (with 40-45% being halfling and 15-20% being halfelf and human). So there are a lot more characters out there in your potential market. Beastlords are one of five races and seem to be evenly divided amongst them. Also, wood elves do have their pre-DoN cultural tailoring to help them skill up. None of the large races have pre-DoN cultural tailoring.

Not sure what you are referring to here...as I have a Troll Bst who is planning on making the cultural armor. Master's Reaver armor requires Shimmering Ukun Hides as the only dropped portion. I find it on vendors all the time for 37p each. I've accumulated about 3 stacks this way in the past month or so, and I do very little vendor-mining.

My mistake... I was thinking of the Basilisk Tooth which was used in the troll smithing master armor and only drops in VP. A couple weeks ago (more than month after DoN release), SoE changed the required piece to Great Reptile Tooth and made it obtainable in PoNightmare.
