  • Shissar scales farming

I've been farming shissar scales a lot recently so I decided to write a guide to do it.

Shissar scales are used in some culture's Master armor. 1 shissar scale can combine for leather arms for up to tailoring 290. Past that you'd need 3 scales at once for either leg or bp. If you somehow have an abundant supply of crushed diamond dust you can also use scales for blacksmithing via Master augments.

    Some basic stuff about Shissars:

Shissars have relatively low HP, normalish DPS (for PoP and later era), but high AC. DS and spells works well on them.
    They all summon
They have a tiny assist range

Now the snakes you want are the live ones, which can be tell by the fact that live snakes always wear clothing (and conversely undead ones never do). The type you want are Temple Patrollers which are alive and only repop as Temple Patrollers. The following is a pretty optimal path to get all the patrollers in the 1st level (well if you can kill faster than I can then you can always try to find more to kill)

    1. Entance: 4 patrollers, 1 temple guard (live). Unlike other temple guards, this one always repops as temple guard. The two sitting by the door can be singled by pulling them from the side, or invis pasting them and then pull the one on the right of the door from inside.

    2. Head toward the basement. You'll come across a small area with 4 patrollers, 2 on right and 2 on left. These can be singled by either invising behind them and start hitting it (watch push), or if you're gutsy you can simply make a quick turn and go to the snake you want to hit before the one on the other side can see you. The ideal place to fight the snakes is on the wall that they're facing away from, but you need to be a class with a good knockback to do this. Don't even think about trying to move the snakes here, because all that will do is bring more of its friends.

    3. Room before Rhag 1 - This room has 8 temple patrollers. The setup is somewhat similar to the room before but with much wider space. Singling should be trivial, but if you've problems just invis first so the snake on the opposite side can't see you while you set up.

    4. Elevator to basement - This room has 5 temple patrollers (2 at entrance, 3 by elevator) and 4 temple guard type (1 at each corner). Temple guard can repop as a temple guard, caster snake, an elite, and probably a commander as well. Elite, commander, and temple guards are alive but casters snakes are undead. There will be two by the entrance. To split these, invis past them and kill one of the snakes at a corner. Then, from there pull the closer one from the door and it will come single. Now proceed to kill the rest of the room. After killing 1 patroller by the entrance I go around the room first so that the respawns are spread out and next time I can just start from the entrance. If DPS is lacking, you can skip the 4 temple guard types in the corners and just go for the temple patrollers.

Now go back to entrance and repeat. Your actual mileage may vary depending on your DPS/solo ability. At the very least try to clear from rooms 1-3 because those are all guaranteed patroller spawns. Room 3 is the easiest to clear in terms of pull difficulty.

    Great write up Phantron.

It couldn't come at a better time as I finished my ancestral book this weekend and am about to start my scale farming.

Could you give us an idea of how many scales you pick up per hour or per session? What character do you use to solo farm... lvl 70...?

If any other Rangers have any experience with this camp please respond as I would be very interested in your solo strat concerning the Shissars.

    Cheers,

I killed 11 last night (before I was called away). 9 of them were alive, 2 were undead. I got 2 scales (both off of the same mob.) In the past, I've cleared for an hour or two and come away with *maybe* a stack an hour. (This is clearing the portal room, though...not using the above strategy. I just learned that patrollers always respawn as patrollers a few days ago. So a lot of my kills were undead.)

This is a level 70 Beastlord...pre-elemental, ornate or better equipment.

The aggro range on these is unbelievably small. You can pull two that are side-by-side single. I'd say that you would have to get within 10ish feet of them in real-life terms to aggro.

They hit in the 200s, and are fully slowable (except for the elites on the 2nd floor...they are immune.)

I am a 70 war. I have a druid for healing and DS though I can do rooms 3 & 4 by myself. I also have a right click haste of 50% from CBQ belt. My guess is that you probably can't do the whole area from entrance to elevator room by yourself easily but duoing might be effective. I don't keep track of my killing rate, but I really can't imagine any 290 tailoring component come any easier than this if you can kill the snakes with any reasonable efficiency.

At least on my server Ssra is pretty much always empty unless someone is camping epic parts (the key/shard camp usually don't interfere). If you've visitors, be sure to point out that Temple Patrollers do not see invis and will never repop as anything they need (elite or commander) so there's really no reason for them to be killing them. Maybe you can even work out a trade.

The shissar weapons on the elites tribute for around 60-120 if you happen to kill them, though elites tend to give you more downtime if you can't heal/slow.

I was getting about a stack every couple hours when I was clearing the first and second floor a few weeks ago. 70 ranger/69 druid duo.

main is a druid... but 2 boxed a ranger/cleric for awhile ... ranger went from 62-65 (and a couple aa's) in ssra.. cleric was 65 and dinged 66. Could clean 1st room and group of 4 just past so 9 mobs. Expect to average 1 stack per 2 hours... somedays better than others.

Later took a 58 Warr and used cleric outside group so warr get all exp.. went from 58 to 62 and 2 aa's to finish off run3. 1 less mob per cycle at end.. about same drop rate.

We wont go into how many scales i needed to go from 240ish to 300... lets just say ITS FINALLY DONE.

            Have fun

I been farming shissar scales with my 70 druid main, and a 69 monk alt to take the hits.
I get 1 stack in 1-2 hours, depending on luck.

              My normal clearing routine are:

              Entrance, kill all.
Elevator Room to right of entrance, kill the 2 at door, theyre always live snakes. See if the 2 at corner and 3 at elevator are worth killing. If so, do. If not leave them.
Room after entrance with 4 snakes, beat up those.
Then first run right at the T-cross and see if the 3 mobs past door are worth killing. If not, leave alone.
Then run left, and check the 3 mobs at end there, opposite the 8 snake room. I always kill those, since that fits pretty well into my kill speed.
Then clear the 8 snake room.
Then past 8 snake room to the next elevator room (The one down to basement), and kill the 2 guards at door, then see if the rest are worth killing. After killing or skipping rest, go back to entrance and repeat.
I got around 3% real XP in a few hours on a level 68 iksar (so 20% XP penalty) monk, with 10% to AA.

I am about to start farming Shissar Scales for Masters level Cultural armor, for both Tayloring skill, and for the armor, which is a minor upgrade for me.

I have a 65 Cleric friend to help. Can a level 63 Beastlord tank these? Could I solo them? Solo, and I'd just camp there and avoid the running back and forth.

Well, they only hit for about 200 damage which is pretty easy. They were made to be a decent challenge to lvl 60 players years ago. Gear and AA have progressed way beyond that point so I believe you shouldn't have any issues at all.

Level 70 SK. My 68th pet can almost kill a single with Convi and haste. He usually needs a Cheal when it's almost dead.

I need to get scales from these guys, but they scare me because of their summoning ability. What's a good strategy for a 59 druid to solo these guys and to avoid getting killed. : )

Best way for ya to go Eggs would be to get a small group, maybe a tank and one dps and go at them. At your level, you'd take some decent hits from them and since ssra is a closed space, there wouldn't be much room to move around either. But, if you had someoen to take a hit and or someone to slow, it would probably be easily doable, and at your levels be pretty good exp too.

Space is not an issue in Ssra. Every Shissar summons and except the two snakes by a door it is perfectly safe to fight any Shissar at where they spawn.

You're not going to be soloing a Shissar as anyone at level 59 with any efficiency.

He is undead and drops the polished serpent scale, not the shissar scales.
I have literally hundreds of kills of Taskmaster Torkazh (and three amulets of the grey wastes from his organs) and have only seen the cracked shissar revenant skull, orb of echo ore, polished serpent scale, shissar organs, and phosphorescent fiber drop.
