Scarcity of glossy drake hides

I know they are supposed to be rare, but I think their drop rate compared to metallic drake scales should be looked at. In all of the missions I've been on I only had one scale and a pair of purescale ores drop, but never a hide. Unfortunately that's my only direct observation, so not worth much to compare the two. But on the bazaar I almost always see at least 3-5 venders selling a couple metallic drake scales each while only seeing one or perhaps two glossy hides for sale at the most.

Are there just more grandmaster tailors on my server using them up? Could be I guess, but if so then they would probably snatch up the single hides I see for sale and I would think there would be a bunch of GM armor on the market.

Is everyone farming the same missions that happen to give scales far more often then hides? Another possibility. If true, please provide some info if you know any. Not fishing for farming spots, but trying to determine if the drop rates are out of wack.

Has anyone else noticed this disparity between scales and hides on your server?

On Innoruuk, I've never seen a Metallic Drake Scale for sell in the bazaar (and I check often.) I've only seen 1 Glossy Drake Hide, which I snatched up immediately at 500p.

So, it's hard to tell. I haven't had the chance to do much DoNing myself...so I've seen none drop.

I am having the same problem, I have done over 100 of the missions and have stacks of scales and ore but have only seen 3 clossy drake hides drop.

On Rodcet I have seen both in the bazaar, can't recall the prices but it wasn't outrageous.

I've also vendor-mined a few of both.

Another way to look at it is this:

Metallic Drake Scales are used for plate & chain while Glossy Hides are for leather only so a 2:1 ratio would make sense. If you break it down further, 9 classes wear plate or chain compared to 3 in leather so a 3:1 drop ratio would still make sense.

I've seen about a 2:1 drop rate. 1 scale and 1 ore to 0 hides is a very small sample. I've looted more than 20 scales now, not sure on the exact number due to having bought the remainder that I used. I've seen 9 drake hides, and traded them all for scales. Can't get a 3:1 trade rate either, its been 2:1 or 1 for 1.

My complaint with hides would be on the great reptile hides for master level. /grumble.

Wish had your luck on scales....I have been getting more hides then scales from my killings.

about 2 hides for every 1 scale I gotten. I just use them to make the symbols for my armor pieces.

I have never seen a glossy drake hide in the Bazaar. The metallic drake scale that I have seen is listed for around 20k.

The only place that I have seen these hides drop is in the Diseased Puma mission (which awards 48 rad crystals in Stillmoon).

Grrr, WTB venders on my server who know nothing about tradeskills, hehe. Metallic scales are for sale on Vaz for 15-30k (and one nut trying to sell for 350k). Glossy hides are usually 35k, sometimes 20k and once at 15k which I bought.

I'll have to see if I can get some buddies to try that diseased puma mission. Nice crystal reward too.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Will just have to keep hacking away at the drakes and mining the baz for a couple more hides so I can attempt my tunic and symbol.

Noticed the same thing on CT server, 2:1 ratio roughly 60 Creator Missions and have seen about 20 Metallic Drake Scales drop to maybe 8 to 10 Glossy Hides. CT used to be one of the cheapest servers in game til the recent merger. Metallic Scales before merger were goin for 3 to 5k and Glossy were going for 1 or 2k, since the server merger Scales 20 to 40k Hides 35 to 70k.
And worst think of it, there's almost no way you could sell GM BP for any race or religion for more than 100k w/ the aug symbol to go with it and the failure rate with salvage3 bm3 is still about 25 to 50 % if your skill is between 275 to 315 with mod. Have heard that 345 mod skill with gloves from VT brings failure rate down to 5 % however.

easy way to get glossy drake hides, purescale ore and metallic drake scales

as a druid i just check the mrechant mob in lavastorm (Tisiana), if she has any valuable items on her, i'll buy them all up, once i'm through with her, i slaughter that beeyotch! why you ask?, because she'll have a fresh inventory list, and the frikkin newbs who know nothing about the hides/scales/ores will just sell them back to her thinking that it's just merchant fodder, /score. wash, rinse, repeat, every time she's full up, have your way with her, you'll see, it helps a bit, and only costs like 3 - PP tops, BOO-YA!

I'm starting to see a lot more of these in the bazaar on Quellious. The prices of them are also going down a bit. Not too many people sell them for 20k anymore. Usually under 10k and occasionally I'll snare one for about 50-100pp.

Ive done five creator missions and so far have seen 4 Glossy Drake Hides, 0 Metallic Drake Scales and 9 Purescale Ore.

They are quite rare on Erollisi as well.

Some odd 30-40 diseased pumas missions... seen maybe 4 total.

1 I got as the other cultural player got one in the mission before and we didnt do split til after that mission.

The third someone else got and was gonna keep and sell for 40k.. /sigh.

The fouth was looted by a wiz, who despite me telling him not to sell it, that i needed it, and would pay 5-10k for it, (and before that that it should be randomed on by group....) kept it, didnt random, and either sold it in baz, or just merchant'd it. The merchant was full so...

I vendorfarmed 2 yesterday, and tried GM tunic with 245 modded skill and tailoring mastery 3..... it failed /sigh... How high I need to get to have a decent chance at this.. I thought 245 with mastery would put me at 50% chance...

I tried once so far with 258 unmodified skill and succeeded. Now I just need to get a stupid kirin horn from stillmoon missions to finish off my GM aug quest and I'll be able to wear the silly thing.
