  • Great Reptile Hides -- initial reports

I spent about 4 hrs in Cazic Thule. I went back through my logs, I found 74 death throe emotes as they die. Seems like I killed a lot more than that, but let's go with that as a number.

I looted 4 Great Reptile Hides. I got them all within the first hour, and then spent the next three hours without looting another hide. Ugh.

Anyone ventured into Veeshan's Peak to confirm if they still drop there, yet?

I was 0 for 28 on raptor kills, concentrating on the raptors in the first CY and in the maze.

Could you be specific as to where you were when they dropped? I'm trying to determine if I need to move, of if I just had a bad run (what I'm hoping).

Not too difficult to solo as a druid, DS tanking them, but having multis can quickly go sour since they all summon. Not that it happened to me last night....twice.

Not sure the average Druid can waltz into CT and DS tank the raptors. As a 66 Druid/Monk combo they can be difficult simply because they hit so fast. Not sure what your gear is, but I don't want folks assuming these beasts are push-overs...

And an update as which area the hides dropped in would be extremely helpful

This was essentially my first time into this area of CT, so I don't know the name. We were in the NW corner of the map, though. There was a round room with 4 raptor static spawns, and a small hallway that lead to a smallish temple. Wandering raptors were outside the temple in a larger round area.

There were Thul tae ew around and on the temple (only one level of temple) and I managed to score a flawless hide and two pristines scales in the clearing as well.

I was duoing with my 70 SK and 70 Halfling Cleric. PS: Cure Disease gets rid of Bane of Thule. :-)

Edit: Included link to Cazic Thule map at mapfiend, we were in the NW area of the map. It's difficult to spot the round area with 4 raptors, because of the sewers being underneath and more prominent on the map.

Any clue what the name of this area is called?

I'm not sure what defines an average druid, but I was just over 7k hps (70 druid) with shammy buffs and oak. Mobs hit fast, but solo were not terrible. Pull and root (clearing if necessary OR training them to ZI with snare to seperate - the method I did as the zone was empty).

Stack three dots, if the order of the dots is right you can get the second to land (Winged Death was the second one I cast) before getting summoned. Channel the third dot if lucky, then begin chain healing yourself expecting to get interupted. Around 30ish %, switch to nuke. Then med / regen for the next one. It was FAR from fast but it was the best I could do solo.

Again, having multiple mobs at once is not very solo friendly in CT.

Another few hours spent in CT, after clearing the CY and the first Raptor in the Maze 3 times - 12 raptor spawns - without a drop, a group of us went to the spot you described.

We cleared that 3 times, including the majority of the mobs around the temple - a minimum of 20 more raptors (28 + 12 + 20) puts me at a minimum of 60 kills without a drop of the reptile hide.

In the same time spent there, we got 2 pristine tae ew hides and 1 flawless tae ew hide off the Thuls.

For the record, I don't think I could do that camp without friends.

I hate to jump to a fishy conclusion, but I got all of my 4 drops within the first hour, then spent the next 3 hours without any drops. Is it possible that something is broken? I know it doesn't seem *logical* but is it possible?

                Raptors what raptors?

tiger ? enraged? or just only just plain old raptors . can we get clairifaction .
As for me I spent about 1hr there I killed the 3 at the entrance at least 4 times each and moved the maze where I killed more ..prob an other 10 or so more and still not one drop.

I killed 25 of the frenzied/fierce and 4 of the jungle raptors and got 0 hides.
They hit hard and got me down to 30% (70 bard with about 7500 hp) a few times. Was hoping this may be a good skill-up route but i guess i'll just have to kill my othmir faction instead.

There were all four kinds of raptors that I was was clearing when I got them to drop. Frenzied, fierce, enraged, and tiger.

I spent another two hours there yesterday, in the same spot that yielded hides before, and got 0. 4 in the first hour, and then none for the next 5 hours? Something's fishy, I think.

Do the hides also drop in ToV?

Not likely before the change to the great reptile hides, the racnar hides only dropped in VP. With the change the only added zone was CT. Unfortunately the number of raptors in CT are quite low and the distance between both camps of them makes it hard to farm them both.

                            CT revisited

Spent another few hours killing raptors (frenzied/fierce/jungle) and got 1 on 34th kill, none on the next 12.
So my drop-rate on hides is now 1/75.

I don't know if that's good news or bad news.

Good news that they still dropped, but bad news that it wasn't an SOE error that was causing the drop rate to be in the toilet. :-( Still extremely unreasonable when compared to shissar scales and nightmare arachnid silks.
