trying to come up with a skill up rout to help some friends o mine out, posting here to get opinions from fellow tradeskillers<<bias'd in favor of highelf options, you will have to insert your race's options and check if they are viable or not>>

The standard rout to 158 via wu's and what not
then get to 180s via them funky ribbons over in gulf of gunthak

from here on out is were ive had to do a ton of research.

For highelf, doing expert armor seems to be the optimal rout to go to 222
not sure on what other races have to camp, drachnid's seem to be rather productive in droping the regular silk and drachnid silk, figure farm the crap outa them while still in the 120s tailoring and stock up on both regular and drachnid silk
    Bracers-1swatch-182
    sleeves-1swatch-212
    Robe/Pants-3swatch 222

From here i see the following options, figure do a wide mix of all...

    Reinforced Acrylia - 242
Various Robes via the ribbon stuff from Gulf of Gunthak
<<dependant on drop rate and availability in the baz on the runes ect>>
    - robe of tears - 232
    - robe of impulse - 252
    - robe of virtue - 262

    Feran/Murkglider stuff -262-282

Can also do Hulgresh stuff - 268 /282 / 322 (dont wanna mess up faction with the cute little otters, i like dem dudes) but if not care about faction, then othimir fur might work as well, i found farming hulgresh more productive quantity vs time then farming the otters

can also do master armor, but for some folks, getting the storm volias hair might be rough.
    Master bracers - 263
    Master Sleeves - 290
    Master Robe - 304

    so, did i miss anything?

I did look at couple of GoD tailored items, but am totaly unsure on droprates or viability of skill up...
    barbed whips - 231
    Hynid-hair Thread - 268

Forget Robe of Virtue, Word of virtue needed to make the swatch arn't available enough, and when they happen to show up in the bazaar, that's for insane prices. Ditto for Feran/Murkglider things.
Otherwise, take a look at Velium Hounds / Velium Mastodonts / ice burrower also.

The DoN Cultural recipies give you another option besides the ribbon route from 158+. Heck, you could even avoid Wu's armor now if you chose. Like you said, it's easy to farm 1 item per DoN attempt and you don't have to shell out the PP for the ribbons. High Elf Journeyman's combines (up to 139 trivial I believe) require Silk Swatches as the only farmed item. If money isn't an issue, that's definately the easy route as spider silk can be farmed en mass in Eastern Karana.

I don't know what race you are but the human Master leather armor only requires Shissar Scales which isn't too hard to get, though all Shissars summon which makes it a bit hard to solo for certain classes.

highelf mage for me, so need storm voilias hair, i can gank the giants easily, but single pulling them is a pain some times, my friend is a woodelf, and i belive he needs shissar scales as well for the WE leather, need to double check on that myself

              PoNightmare

I'm at 262 and currently doing mostly Nightmare-Leather combines. They seem to be a fast way, although expensive (distilled mana/raw diamonds).

Hobgoblins = Brick of Nightmare Iron (emblems/studs)

Nightmare Mephits = Nightmare Mephit Blood (emblems/tempers)
              = Hides
              = Midnight Stones (tempers)
              Slarglugs = Fetid Slime (tempers)

Also the silk versions - but the 3 saps per combine seem rare. I've cleaned out the bazaar (20pp each avg)
The Nightmare Arachnid Silk is pretty common off the creeprs too.

I box a 68 mage and it usually takes about 30-45min to duo into the mephit caves. Once past the hobgobs, it's pretty easy.

Trivials are at 295 so they will keep me busy for awhile.
I've gained more (feran/murk blood, coarse spider silk, etc just from farming vendors though.

                Storm Voilias Hair

well, these buggers not so easy to kill as a cleric. No trouble getting them single, but they summon and proc FD and my dps isn't exactly "stellar". Tried a few last night and didn't get any hair to drop. Not farmable for me imo.

check symbols, they arn't race combine restricted.
Expert ones require purescale ore and nightmare silk swatch tho

Crushed Diamond Dust is way too rare to use Master symbol as a skill up path. I bet you can get Purescale ores (Grandmaster) faster than Crushed Diamond Dusts (though probably not solo).

Shissar scales is probably the easiest combine if your race's leather armor uses those. Nightmare silk isn't that bad either. The nice thing about Shissar Scales is that if you're somehow able to come up with a lot of Crushed Diamond Dusts these double as smithing combine too (Master smithing symbols use these).

what about options for a high-elf cleric, lvl 70? current skill of 255 tailoring.

                      criteria:

                      - need to be able to get together 150-200 combines in a run (so i can be pretty sure of netting one to a few skillups).
                      - need to be able to get this stuff solo.

i'm thinking that the best stuff is othmir fur for a while. the drop rate is just kind of sucky...

i can't really farm the storm volaas hairs (for the same reasons stated above), so DoN expert armor is closed to me as a skillup path. (i still call for equal opportunity for high elves! let us use schissar scales, too!)

i've not been to WW in a while, but i doubt i can solo effectively enough there to do anything without getting myself killed. i am ally to the dragons, so that takes a little pressure off.

the thing that really just burns me up is the amount of time it looks like i'd need to invest -- not doing combines, but crappy, boring farming -- to get enough combines to skill up tailoring.

let's take some un-optimistic assumptions (i have absolutely no reason to be at all optimistic about either drop rates or skill-up rates), starting at 255 tailoring.

                      for othmir fur:
20 furs per hour (seems to be about right)
2 furs per combine (7 points, to 262)
3 furs per combine (6 points, to 268)
4 furs per combine (27 points, to 295)
                      50 combines per skill point

                      50 * (2*7 + 3*6 + 4*27) = 7000 furs.
at a rate of 20 furs/hour, i should expect to farm for about 350 hours!!!!!

                      350 HOURS TO 295!!!!

now, i didn't intend to turn this into a rant. tailoring is near and dear to my heart, and is the first skill i ever mastered . i just don't see how i'm ever going to be able to do this. i definitely welcome and encourage suggestions. i'd like to have a glimmer of hope in the pit of despair that has become my tradeskill advancement.

Othmir seem to be my best skill-up path too. My only consolation is that in those 350 hours, you'll make about 350k sneak-selling the othmir drops to the othmir merchant.

You might want to wait a bit for the high-skillup-percent combines that will be coming down the pipe in the near future.

Bad thing is, those are optimisitic numbers

Id go for around 10 furs per hour... was about all I ever got.

And with the new "lovely" increased difficulty 250-300, Id say 100 combines per skillup, possibly more.

But the tailoring nerf/unfixable bug has really made it.... taking away the best recipies to get to 300, then making it take 3x more of the other recipies which are only farmed and are rare...

So by your numbers, lets double that to 700ish hours, then double it again, because drop rates arent good enough to be 20/hr...

1400 hours to go from 250-295 tailoring.... man.... that just makes me happy and fuzzy inside...

Tailoring is broken, you just have to wait for them to fix it.
Theres not much else around it.
