• DoN Tailoring? Where in game is info?

Ok.. I got my base book and made patterns. Got my Journeyman's book and made symbol patterns. There is a nice write-up for smiffing. I am looking to do tailoring, and since there is no write-up here, I thought I would research in game. Are there books? Sold? Dropped? In particular, High-Elf tailoring.

Found the books

I found the books on Sherin Matrick, in the western trader building (lower level, north side). Three books. Is there any way to capture their text.. it doesn' go into the log?

Mystyre

Ok.. To prepare the Silk Swatches, the book says use a Small Spool of Mithral (From LOY robe lady), Silk Swatch, Feir`Dal needle (no such thing.. It's a Koada`dal needle), and the Feir`Dal sewing kit. This is from the point of view of a Wood Elf. I tried all of the above in a standard sewing kit and it would not combine. Do I have to have a Feir`Dal sewing kit? What are other races going to use??

High Elves can't use a Feir'Dal Sewing Kit (cultural, wood elf only, neh?). Working this one out myself as well, proving to be quite a pain in the posterior, and very taxing on my already stuffed inventory and bank.

Here are the books..

Ok.. Mebbe my High Elf brain can't understand Wood Elfese.. so here are the three books:

Culturally Inspired Armor - part 1
by Garven Juli

I knew the moment I finished reading the books and looking at the stunning symbolism of my people that I would have to make armor based on this work. The book is all the rage in Kelethin, so I probably don't have to tell you about it. Go out and find a copy for yourself. The patterns in it are amazing. I think I've figured out a good way to make the armor, and I want to share it with you.

First you'll need material. If you want to work in silk, get a silk swatch, if you work in leather then a medium quality cat pelt will do. For this, though, you'll need some special embroidery work. Get a small spool of Mithril thread and your Fier`Dal needle [no such thing.. It's Koada`Dal needle]. Work the Mithril thread into the swatch in your Fier`Dal sewing kit, freehand it, just make sure that you weave the thread in somewhat evenly to add strength to the swatch.

I know that the other races all use the standard silk swatches for this work, but I've been hearing about the use of other animal pelts for leather. I guess that's not unusual. Humans, High Elves, those filthy Dark Elves, Half Elves, Erudites and Frogloks all use cat pelts. I assume that decision is made for availability and size reasons. The larger races, Barbarians, Trolls, and Ogres all use medium quality bear skins, while all the shorter folks use medium quality wolf skins. There are some oddballs, like the Vah Shir who might be unwilling to use cat skins, they use medium quality hides from those rock hoppers they have. Iksar find sabertooth tiger hides easy enough to come by, and so they use those.

Of course, the simpler silk and medium quality pelts are only suited for journeyman work with these patterns. I'll try to discover what works for better quality armor later if I can.

Once you have your silk or leather, you'll need a pattern. I had to do some favors for someone to get a copy for myself, you'll have to find someone to get your pattern book from.

I'ts worth the effort. The pattern book will show you how to make patterns.

Once you have a few patterns and some material, you're ready to get to work making your armor. This will be good armor, but later I'll show you how to make it special.

Smaller pieces, like wristguards, gloves, and sleeves, will only require one swatch. You'll need two for helmets or boots, and three for something as large as a robe or pants. You'll also need an extra swatch of your base material, one without the Mithril stitching, to fill in the joints and for backing. <<<Replace the preceeding with: Be sure to use a large spool of mithril thread to sew it all together!>>> Follow the pattern and you'll produce a fine template.

Most of use would do this in a sewing kit. For some reason those tiny Gnomes work in a toolbox at this stage. I've seen them throw some of the craziest things into those kits, but they seem to come out with functional enough armor, if you don't mind the whirring and ticking noises they sometimes make. Only a Gnome would understand, I guess.

<End of book 1>

So.. What needle and what container do non-wood-elves use for swatches? Do all races use Mithril thread?

Next book next post

Book 2

Culturally Inspired Armor - part 2
by Garven Juli

In order to truly finish the piece you will need another special pattern book. Seek them out, they can be found. With these patterns you can create a stylistic symbol that will represent you and your chosen deity. This symbol, when added to you armor, will complete the work and produce a wonderful piece of armor.

Once you have the patterns from your new book, you'll need to find a special liquid to soak your symbol in. You can find water blessed by the gods, or their priests at least, if you look for them [Found E. Marr and M. Marr in NFP cleric guild, found Tunare in Felwithe cleric guild]. Then get a jade shard and have a jeweler crush the jade into the water. This works as both a sacrifice for the god and a thickener for the liquid.

Then take the liquid, your pattern, and a silk swatch [Interesting.. smithing version doesn't take ore..] and get to work in your kit. If you have the skill you will be able to fashion a wonderful symbol that will complete your armor. At this step as you improve your skill and attempt more difficult symbols, you will want to use something other than the simple silk swatch, such as Drachnid silk swatch, Nightmare Arachnid swatch, and even glossy drake hide.

This symbol will have power, but it will only fit into the armors made with these patterns. You will certainly have noticed the place it attaches to the armor when you were creating it. You will be able to attach the symbol using one of those augmentation sealers.

As I mentioned earlier, my initial work using basic silk results in journeyman pieces. If you feel that your skill is greater than that, then you may wish to try more complicated armor pieces. I've discovered that the basic procedure is the same, and the key to making better quality armor is in using better quality material

For silk you will need to go from a simple silk swatch to a drachnid silk swatch. From there you may wish to try a Stormweave swatch. If you are truly a grandmaster, then attempt the procedure with a coarse silk swatch that can be made from those nasty spiders found in that dragon place. You know what I mean.

<end of book 2>

Book 3

Culturally Inspired Armor - part 3
by Garven Juli

Of course that's if you are a High Elf, Human or Wood Elf. Other races will need to try the following.

Froglok and Iksar. Silk swatch, drachnid silk swatch, ice silk swatch, and then the coarse silk swatch [Is this sequence for the main material or for symbols or both?].

Dark Elf. Silk swatch, drachnid silk swatch, nightmare arachnid silk swatch, and then the coarse silk swatch.

Gnome. Silk swatch, crystalline silk swatch. nightmare arachnid silk swatch, and then the coarse silk swatch.

Erudite. Silk swatch, Terrorantula swatch, nightmare arachnid silk swatch, and then the coarse silk swatch.

If course, that's silk. If you work with leather you'll need this list.

Human and Wood Elf: Medium quality cat pelt, High quality cat pelt, Shissar scales, and then glossy drake hide.

Ogre, Troll and Barbarian: Medium quality bear skin, high quality bear skin, shimmering Ukun hide, and then glossy drake hide.

Half Elf and Halfling: Medium quality wolf skin, high quality wolf skin, Racnar hide, and then glossy drake hide.

Iksar: Sabrretooth hide, excellent sabertooth hide, Racnar hide, and then glossy drake hide.

Vah Shir: Medium quality rockhopper hide, high quality rockhopper hide, Shissar scales, and then glossy drake hide.

One other thing to keep in mind as you attempt more complicated armors. You will want to make a more generous offering in you temper as you make more powerful armor. The jade shard is fine for the journeyman, but an expert should use a lambent stone. The master should use crushed diamond dust, and the grandmaster should find some purescale ore.

<end of book 3>

I wonder if Imbued stones would combine to offer a mix of Cultural/Deity specific armours?

Racnar Hide????

I have to kill my CoV faction to gather my expert cultural tailoring component? Very disappointed......This is the only sewing component that requires you to damage a faction with any bearing on the game, and before you ask I don't have access to VP anymore (since revamp).....

A quick look at the Bestiary shows lots of Racnar not on CoV faction.. Veeshan's Peak in Kunark, and ToV Halls of Testing. Racnar hide not in Bestiary/Allack yet, but would hope it would drop from these guys.

As I said I don't have access to VP anymore. At least I can get them in HoT, but I'd much rather be able to easily duo-gather shissar scales then convince a group or more to hit HoT for my tailoring habit....

Still can't make the ^$%@& silk armor

Ok.. My smith made me a Koada`Dal Sewing Kit (hereafter KDSK). I combined silk swatches with mithril thread and got "Journeyman's Starglow Swatch" (hereafter JSS). So I tried making some wristguards. Tried 1 JSS, 1 Silk swatch, 1 Pattern, in my KDSK. "Will not combine". Added Koada`Dal needle. DNK. Removed extra silk swatch. DNK. Moved entire mess to my deluxe sewing kit. DNK in all variants. Tried combines in stationary loom in South Felwithe. DNK.

How do I use my nice fancy swatch to actually make something?

>"then glossy drake hide."

Is this item even in the game? It won't let me set up a buy line for it in the barter hall, and that searches through all droppable items. Is this NODROP by accident? Or is it missing from the game completely?

I also don't see "metallic dragon scales" in barter that I can make a buy item to get. Is this in the game either?

Any idea.. even the smallest hint as to what frogloks use for this? tried sewingkits, looms, various needles.. nothing resembling "cultural" needle or container..

Attempted Gukta Essence and E.needle combine (in Guktan forge) for needle, and nothing.. tried every needle i can get my hands on, and they don't work..
