  • Monk 1.5 combine

    from monkly business

""Combine the three Polished Symbols (Sun, Moon, Order) and the Celestial Thread and a belt patter into a sewing kit and make the Initiate's Sash of the Celestial Order.
    ""

anyone know if there is a triv lvl for this combine, or if it is nofail?
if you do fail, will you get the items back, or would it cost another 1000pp for another celestrial thread?

    any info is apprecated

watched a monk friend of mine fail the combine 3 times or so, he said it trivials around 180 (and the goon was trying with only ~20 skill).

it returns three items on failure (as per the spam from being grouped) im assuming its the sun/moon/order thats returned.

      It's almost cost effective

From what I've gathered it's somewhat cost effective at 1k per try to attempt the monk epic combine at L20. Blowing 10k on the combine tries rather than spending all the time to skillup to 180 or so. I know several monks who did it at skill of 20 or less, and the worst one I heard was 15 tries.

You get back all the symbols on fail, just have to fork over another 1k to the NPC for a new thread.

I was going to try at skill lvl 54, I leveld all my tradeskills on another toon and REALLY don't feel like tradeskilling my monk up to 180 tailoring. Hope I don't spend more than 10k. But if so...........it's worth it

Getting Tailoring up to ~120 is terribly easy... it's just the higher-end (200+) that's the real PITA.

I couldnt agree more. 252 tailoring here, and finding it hard to find skill up path that doesnt involve making my eyes bleed from farming day in and day out. If it works with only 20 skill, and you only need to pay 1k for a new thread, go for it, you can make the 1k back farming easily, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands you'd spend just trying to skill to 180.

Let's not embellish the cost too much. I have probably spent < 100k getting tailoring up to 252 and most of that cost was the journey from 232-252.

Getting to 157(or was it 158?) in tailoring probably costs less than 5k for materials that are either vendor bought or readily available in the bazaar. Just takes time, which most people when going for their 1.5 probably value their time above the cost of a few attempts at 1k a piece.

It's fairly easy to get to 187 on ribbons if you have the LoY expansion, past then is when it gets difficult.

I did all 3 combines successfully on the first try with a skill around 180. It really wasn't too hard to get it that high, either, nor did it take long.

Now I'm at 205 and things are another matter.

When you say its not hard to get 180 tailoring , are you suggestion you could get there in 5 hours with lillte cost? 2k earning per hour farming plat one way or another is not a high estimate, so assuming 10k for combining at no skill, it seems very cost effective.

                        Trip to 180 Tailoring:

                        0 - 54 Tailoring Freebie: Tonlyei's Chores (FREE)
                        55 - 66 Woven Mandrake (Vendor Bought)
                        67 - 76 Picnic Basket (Vendor Bought)
77 - 115 Tailored Quiver (woot now you need HQ cat pelts, they are practically a dime a dozen these days in the bazaar < 1k probably for the entire run)
Lot of Heady Kiolas, Silk Swatches, and Viscous Mana... all fairly cheap, some time collecting combines but not prohibitive (<10pp a combine if you do the farming, silk swatches are pretty darn cheap these days in the bazaar though)
                        116 - 128 Wu's Fighting Collar
                        129 - 135 Wu's Fighting Wristbands
                        136 - 144 Wu's Fighting Mantle
                        145 - 151 Wu's Fighting Sleeves
                        152 - 158 Wu's Fighting Shirt

158, you have probably spent a few hours doing little subcombines and running between vendors - if you bought everythign it probably cost you < 3k.

158-180 is more expensive if you don't do the farming route, but it is fast if you just buy it. 120 combines... so you need 120 dyes then 31p a piece for the gold ribbons (so about 31x9x10=2790p) to get to 167, then 168-180 is more expensive again 130x12x10=15600p. If you are planning to go further in tailoring you get a fair amount of the cost back by using all of the tailored ribbons on culture combines. Otherwise sell and you can probably make half of that back in the bazaar.

I would say, if everything is available in the bazaar (which if you just hunt and peck in the bazaar for sometime it will all show up) 0-180 tailoring is achievable in under 5 hours and probably about 10k (once you have resold ribbons). Or in otherwords, TRIVIAL...

This used to not be the case, but as they smoothed the progression to level 200, anything sub 200 is almost trivial.

**REMEMBER** Though if you are just attempting a skill at level 180, a 158 skill gives you a pretty good shot at success which would cost you maybe 4k in costs and a couple hours of time.

Well with all the info you have posted here and the cost of attempts. I think I'll just get my tailoring to around 180. All in all I think having the tailoring skill in the long run would be benificial. More than likely I will need the skill in the future for other things as well.

I would have put Crystaline Silk tailoring in there, myself.

Easy to get the silk, especially in the Bazaar.
