Phaser Spider Silks

Hello,

Figured phase spider was a good route to skillup... Went and killed several. Tried to combine and it says Im not high enough skill to combine. Couldnt find any information stating what lvl you have to be for the combine. Does anyone know what is up with it and why I cant use it to skill up. Also did a search in the forum on phaser spider and couldnt find any info. Please let me know any info you have and what lvl I need to be before I can use it for skillups.

The only use I know of for phase spider thread is for a component in the Grand Oracle Phylactery quest. Maybe in the write up for that it lists the minimum skill needed to combine? I did it at 201 skill and it worked fine.

G'luck using the phase spider silks for skill-ups. When I hunted them for the quest I failed on 3 combines. During my hunting I think I averaged about 1 silk every 25 spiders at best. That's just a rough estimate though.

Based on what I've seen on the main site, they are also now used in a OoW combine.

Phase Spider silk is now used in the Ranger Epic 1.5. Its used to make a large butterfly net (one of the capture tools for the epic).


Various reports state that the drop rate is better deeper in. I went in back to just outside the first wall/door and hunted there. Definately an uncommon/rare drop but not 1 in 25. Maybe 1 in 10 where I was hunting. Considered the using the same skill up route but it would take quite a while to farm enough silk. Easy enuf to solo for 65+ for most classes that typically can given that they dont summon. As a ranger I could melee them solo, but not without long downtime.

Not a bad route for skill up given that it requires nothing else but the silks (2 at a time). These are NO DROP though, so dont look for them in the Baz unless your on FV.

I had thought about using this as well. I went into DN thinking I would get about a stack an hour - good enough for me. I got about 4 an hour. The drop rate just wasn't good enough. Was probably around 1 in 10 or so.

I had enough for 3 combines - didn't get a skill up but i got 3 nodrop swatches..

Skillup Lvl

Hello,

I thought I would post again and keep you informed of the progress. I really want to know the lvl at which these could be used for skillups. Anyway Im now 148 in tailoring after a run of wu's and still not able to do the combine. Will try again at 150 and let you know if that is a trigger point.

If you check the Grand Robe of the Oracle Quest write up (Step 3: Soul Net) the skill necessary to do the combine is believed to be ~165.

Combine: Phase Spider Silk + Phase Spider Silk
Result: Phase Spider Thread
NO DROP
WT: 0.4 Size: TINY
Class: ALL
Race: ALL
Trivial: 222

Skill-restricted combine: Minimum skill to attempt: 163 < x <= 165
(assumed to be a modified 165 (158 + 5%))

We're not 100% positive its 165, so if you could try at 157, 158, 159...etc, that would be great

edit: oh yeah, try with & without geerlock

Ok confirmed it all tonight.

At 158 you are not able to combine.

But at 158 w/geerlok you are able to combine it. Geerlok makes your skill lvl 165.

So you need to be 165 tailoring or 158 with geerlok.

You need to combine 2 phaser spider silks to get a Phaser spider thread.

I have been half-heartedly killing these to work on my tailoring skill.

I am a 65 Paladin, duoing a 52 Shaman to kill them, but I still kill them pretty slowly. I average about 6 drops per hour at the moment.

I collected two stacks, did the combines and got zero skillups. :-( Still, not a bad place to level the shaman so I will stick with it for a while.

I am going to try Phase Spider silks, othmirs and OOW from now on.

I have had my fill of Solstice Robes. Currently 209 Tailoring. Did 100 (YES 100! ) CSR combines last night and not one skill up.
