  • Which race for cultural?

After studying tailoring for a few hours over the past week, I'm making a new toon to begin with.

I guess I'm stuck. I cant figure out which race to pick to begin with.
Are certain race combinations less costly to skill with by using that race's cultural gear to skill up?

On the same note, is there a common race that is used for highly sought after cultured tailored gear?

I have a 250jc and 250potter. But the whole cultural thing I'm just warming up to.

Any comments or suggestions would be welcomed!

There are only three options - the other races have cultural robes but no other recipes.

Erudite - Prexus (Black Pearl), Quellious (Topaz) and non-imbued

Halfling - Karana (Plain Pebble), non-imbued and Leatherfoot bags

Wood Elf - Tunare and non-imbued

Some of the above imbues are restricted to their own race but quite a lot are open to some of the other races so that improves your options for selling the final products.

Erudite Prexus imbues use Black Pearls which are difficult and expensive to obtain as they are not store bought. However as a Prexus follower you can still make the combines for the non-imbued and Quellious tailoring, you just can't do the imbues.

Wood Elf imbues are tunare so they use Emeralds, more expensive but since tunare is also followed by High Elves and elves in general are a popular class this route has a lot of sales potential but also a lot of competition.]

Halfling imbued tailoring is for Karana followers and uses the foraged plains pebble. While these are only gained by foraging they are as common as muck in the bazaar and often sell for 1pp each or less, even when already imbued. That catch is not the imbued gem but the other parts, mainly the brute hides but most especially the misty acorns which are a royal pain of a ground spawn. Halfling cultural is always limited by the availiblity of misty acorns and your ability to farm brute hides effectively. But the addtonal option of making leatherfoot bags is not to be sniffed at. The availability of shop sold bags of the tinkerers puts an upper limit on the price range for leatherfoot bags but they are still a much sought after item.

Overall most people decide to go with wood elf if they plan on making making a pure tailor and want to take advantage of a good cultural range but that popularity can also work against you when competing for raw materials and market share in the bazaar.

Tunare/wood elf tailoring requires excellent sabretooth hides, iirc, which are...umm...very impractical for skilling up. Misty acorns are foraged as well as groundspawn.
Your real problems are going to turn up post-188 in tailoring, up to that point you have a decent amount of options. I'd say that human or dark elf is better choice for skilling up because you can get quantities needed much more easily if you have a foragebot. The resell on dark elf robes is better than human (Robe of Abrogation is a decent seller, with regen on it). If you don't want to go human or dark elf and would rather go with a foraging race...I'd say halfling wins out over wood elf because of the bags too.

Thanks for taking time to write that out both of you. That helps a lot.

Of course, there are also Erudites who worship Cazic Thule, and there are recipies that can be imbued for them as well, using Amber, I believe.

If you're looking for a market, though, Erudites are not a very good choice. There's just not enough of us to make it worthwhile.

If you're looking for a cultural tailor that will have the *widest* market, it's probably halflings and their bags. A halfling druid or ranger who can do foraging is probably the best bet on that score. On the other hand, there's not much of a market before those excellent bags, and you're also denied the use of the cultural robes to skill up...

Pffth. On Prexus there was only 8 different people selling them today (haversacks that is), one person had 32! Yeah, 4500 per bag is not a profit maker unless you have an easy source for BD's and tufts free.

I'm at the point now where my cultural tailoring recipes are what I need for skilling up, but the database has no known sources for the Excellent Sabertooth Tiger Hide. Does anyone here know what drops them?

Or would you say they're too hard to come by, and to go with acrylia/wyvern even before my skill is 200?

Saber Hides drop in Kunark where there be kitties, personally, i found most in LoIO. On Stromm for example, those are not really uncommon and can usually be found in quantities for under 100pp each.

HQ Brute Hides on the other hand, are a pain, too **** rare and prices usually 200+ pp.
