where do i find the ribbons for the robes?

The research combines require "advanced research containers", are those the regular research containers or something new?

I've never heard of the yew clover and Yaeth's compendium research components are these new components or something i have never actually come across?

The advanced research books can be bought in Gunthak. The components you mentioned are drops in LoY (and possible older areas). The ribbons are sold in Gunthak.

Ribbons are sold in the Lighthouse in Gunthak. Note that they're no drop, so you can't buy and mule them. (Once you do the dyed ribbon combines, they become tradeable.)

The "advanced spell research containers" are given out by an NPC, are no drop, and are only given out to a person of the proper class. Researcher Alvarik (1368, 82) is near the lighthouse in Gunthak - hail him, and follow his text, and you'll find that you need to tell him "I am an enchanter" (or wizard, or mage, or necromancer) in order to receive your class's new spell research container
