  • Skill past ribbons?

I've recently begun leveling my tradeskills again. So has my wife's character, because she wants to do the Grimel quest.

So I know about the ribbons, but I can't do the robes because I'm a wood elf. She's a Guktan (froglok) and they do have a robe caster, but can Froogies make these robes? Which forage do I need to get for her to make said robes? I hung out in FV foraging Lichenclover while I fished for high quality bones to make whittled fishbone darts, but I doubt that's the correct one for her to do.

Also is there any way to get back your money on the ribbons? I lost 70pp per success (selling back to merchant) and 95pp per failure on the platinum ribbons. That doesn't count my 20k loss when I accidentally bought platinum thread instead of platinum ribbon but the ribbons were pretty pricey also.

    So to summarize:

    1. Do Frogs have cultural robes?

    2. What does a wood elf do after 187?

    3. Why am I losing so much money on ribbons?

    1. Go to the front page, click recipies, tailoring and then look at the list of cultural. No froggies listed so there are no known recipies at this time.

    2. Lots of different options. This question is asked quite a bit, I would encourage you to browse through the last few pages of the tailoring thread.

    3. Because you are making an item that cost quite a bit and has no real use, simply for skillups. There is no problem with that but really, you are paying for skillups, of course its going to cost. You might try selling some of the ribbons in the bazaar but I don't know that you won't spend a lot of time and wind up selling at close to the NPC price anyway. Certain ribbons are more in demand than others though and again, I would encourage you to search the forums for that info.

      Greetings,

Unfortunately, as of yet, Frogloks do not have cultural items. So you won't be able to use the ribbons you make.

As a wood elf, you can make Mithril Reinforced and Imbued Mithril Reinforced leathers, trivialling at 215 and 228 respectively. These require Excellent Sabretooth hides, however, and you'll have to kill a lot of cats in Overthere to get enough to make this a viable skillup path.

On my road to 250 (which is posted back in this forum a ways) I did a bit of everything - WE cultural, Fleeting quivers, acrylia reinforced. You will get a lot of folk recommending Ceremonial Solstice Robes, but if you do not have access to a top jeweller and someone to imbue the emeralds for you, these may not be viable. They become too expensive to use for skillups, due to the success rate going up, past about 220. Using a geerlok, you can pick up skillups from 210 - 212 doing cured ethereal energy.

My main route was Acrylia Reinforced. It wasn't too bad, as the hoppers were still giving me experience. I also didn't just make masks - I mainly made sleeves, gloves and boots, which sell fairly steadily on my server (Mith Marr). I continued to turn the Superb hides I got while collecting the Flawless ones into sleeves too - these sell out within 12 hours of going on my trader.

If you are after a mass run to get to 250, then get your money out and go for Solstice robes. I did not have the luxury of such funding, and had to make saleable items for profit to fund further tailoring.

Once you pass 220, then Velious leathers might be attractive to you - I started making mainly Black/Haze Pantherskin, as that turned a tidy profit when I got a success (and could get the supplies). Other than that, it was fishing in Cobalt Scar for cod and a few stacks of Arctic Wyvern masks!

If you have the funds and are willing to commit them, you may find a quicker, but more expensive path to 250. I did some of everything, when I found the supplies, and there is now more choice with some of the GoD items too.

As far as the loss on ribbons, I'm afraid that's just more of the fun of being a tailor!

      Hope this helps.

After agonizingly painful tailoring frustration I wanted to find out what would be the easiest and most cost effective way for a none Intl caster type to raise tailoring, what I’m going to try is the Ceremonial Solstice Robe.

The trivial rate does appear daunting at 335, however it beats the countless hours of Hopper and Acrylia hunting or other pelt/hide combos.
