  • Prayer Shawl for 188-208 skill ups?

I just got to 188 on Acryla Studded, now I need to get to 210. I was wondering if doing the Prayer Shawl Quest was a possible route. I see that Quest Shawls are returned on failure so its "Just" a matter of farming beards and threads. Being a 65 EP geared Agnostic Half-Elf Bard, beards will be no problem. The sirens hair in SG will be tough but possible. Are the items in question common enough to "skill up on" or should I go the another route. PS I do not need the Shawls but being on FV I should be able to sell it for nice PP.

PS I am doing the Aid Grimnial Quest and am 220+ in all skills except Tailoring

It might look good on paper but I think there are a number of routes to take that would be better. Collecting the components for the 6th shawl takes some time. And the giant beard is lore so you could only do one collect/combine at a time.

Doesn't seem like ti would be worth the trouble.

Actually, the farming for the 6th shawl wouldn't be all that bad (and it's siren hair from CS, not SG). Your only problem is successes. Every time you succeed, you have to collect another 4 toes, 10 heads, baking (which is skippable if you still have your +3 range item), dodge death squads, collect wurm bile and 75 threads.

There are much better alternatives than this. If your guild enjoys impromtu raiding, drag them to AR for the 15% tailoring shears and do ethereal swatches from 192 to 210. Otherwise, do a mix of potc robes, velious tailoring and flawless. Being a bard, you will have no problems farming any of the pieces, it just takes patience.

      65 Vah Shir Bard
      Druzzil Ro

      250 baking + trophy
      150 brewing
      200 fletching
      199 pottery
      191 smithing
      191 jewelcraft
      188 tailoring

I'll tell you right off as a not so greatly geared (3500 hp and 3k mana unbuffed at 65 =/) 65 bard I could solo (withing cautious reasoning) the sirens in Cobalt Scar for hairs and the Geos in WL for the gems for the 8th shawl. I say cautiously because for same reaon those level 35 mobs can land a mez or fear or whatever on a 65 person with 300 + in all reists...which to me is unbalanced just a bit (how many level 35 wizards do you see nuking Trakanon for full damage?)

Edit:: Forgot to mention that while I failed the 5th and sixth shawl numerous times each at 187 tailoring, many guildmates and friends have completed numerous shawls at around 187 without a single problem. If you have a market for the completed shawls then by all means it sounds like you may be on to something. However, with the time it took me to farm the hairs for a single combine, I could have easily killed and gotten a few stacks of pelts in CS to work skillups on. I'd suggest not going the shawl route unless you are dead sure that the cost of time is worth it. Otherwise, you may be better off just farming the supplies for a fun on wyvern or dake hides, or <insert your choice of skill path here>.

"do ethereal swatches from 192 to 210"

Ok I must be missing something. I looked up ethereal silk swatches here and it says required skill 220 and trivial at 212. Am I looking at the correct recipie?

Yes, you are looking at the correct recipie. The trick is to have a modifier to increase your skill to 220 while still actually being below the 212 trivial. With a normal geerlok, you can do the swatches from 210-212. With those wonderful, wonderful sheers, you can do them from 192 to 212. Since the swatches are extremely cheap and easy to make, plus sells decently, its recommended to do those ASAP.

Oh, that is a neat trick. Thanks for the quick answer.
