  • Where to begin at tailoring?

Any suggestions or guide for a new beginner to tailoring?? I've been reading the threads concerning spider/spiderling silks.....where should a 19th level druid go to farm for these. Thanks everyone for your time.

    everfrost is good

If you are talking about the really low level tailoring, everfrost or east commonlands are both good zones to work in. Everfrost is chock full of wooly spiderlings (spiderling silks) wolves (lq, mq, hq skins) bears (lq, mq, hq skins) all in the newbie zone, within easy reach. It's very nice because you don't have to run around and look for things, you could stand in place and nuke things and not run out of mobs. This is good for ruined pelts and spiderling silks, and for the occassional lq,mq, or hq. IMHO it is the best place in all of norrath for spiderling silks.

The mobs in EC drop LQ, MQ, and HQ pelts much more often though.

I'm not sure what level the lions in East Karana are,but they may be about your level. There are 5 different varieties of lions in the zone, and they may drop up to 3 pelts apeice. In my experience, about 1/3 of them are HQ pelts, 1/3 MQ pelts, and 1/3 ruined pelts. This is a great zone to get you through studded armor and then later through the reinforced masks/quivers that get you to 115 after you have mastered cured silk.

East Karana also has the crag and carrion spiders, which are TOUGH at lower levels, plus are often farmed. But they can drop as many as 8 spider silks. I wouldn't recommend trying these until you hit AT LEAST 25. Beware of there poison. Plus they frenzy. At your level, these will be very dangerous.

quick chart of places to go to raise your skills
0-15 everfrost wooly spiderlings silk threads
0-26 everfrost polar bear cubs/wolves patchwork
26-40 everfrost polar bear cubs/wolves/spiderlings bags OR
26-36 east karana crag/carrion spiders raw silk
40-56 east karana lions studded armor
56-82 east karana crag/carrion spiders cured silk
    82-115 east karana lions quivers

    Hope that helps

Others are going to disagree with me, but here's my take on low level people doing tradeskills: Do not bother.

Because you are low level you will have less plat at your disposal and it will take you longer to farm things, thus delaying the growth of your character, which in turn delays your power to do tradeskills...starting tradeskills early is kind of like a spiralling pit of doom.

Obviously in some rare cases what you hunt gives you tradeskill supplies, and this is a rare exception...

Ok, I'll be the first to disagree Everquest is a game, do what you enjoy doing. If you enjoy doing tradeskills, Dharla had a pretty good start to tailoring. I would recommend going to the homepage of this site (eqtraders.com) and clicking on "learn a skill" - TONS of great information.

I've played almost 3 years now and finally got to 51 about a month ago. Spent my first 3 AAs on getting a new tradeskill GMed. Still haven't done anything of major importance. It was a lousy way to go about accomplishing anything and I had fun the entire way

Disclaimer - if you are actually wanting to get to 65 as fast as possible and GM everything as fast as possible, he is correct that you should level first.

I would consider going to Abysmal Sea and doing the freebie tailoring quest to get to 54 or such. Painless way to get a good jump

4 years ago i was a little level 12 halfer, making the dangerous journey to Freeport to begin smithing. Things were exciting for a little hobbit back in those days, the world was full of talk of the new continent that had been found, Kurnark, and the evil Iksar that lived there. On a PVP server, you were constantly under threat, especially a halfling in a human city, and Freeport was always under constant attack from the DEs and Ogre/Troll players.

The next 4 years had been dedicated to tradeskilling slowly as i leveled and i never had so much fun.

Sure if you just want to Power Tradeskill to get L33t Grimmel Earings D00de! then level up and buy your way through em.

But if you want to experience the game and enjoy the tradeskill journey, read up om the tradeskill guides, plan your hunting to take you to places where you can get exp and components at the same time.

1 - You are a Druid, FORAGE everywhere you go and save tradeskill stuff... Veggies are a good one, that will be very usefull in the future if you are going to try baking.
In Velious - Tufts of Dire Wolf Fur (keep if you are a Halfling, sell in Baz if you arnt)

2 - Have fun and enjoy the ride....

                lower level spiders

Oh, I forgot to mention this before. If you are in need of spider silk, and are too low to hunt the Crag and Carrion spiders in EK, a good place to go is Kerra Isle (the one in Erud's Crossing). Take the boat from qeynos or erudin. The spiders there are in their low to mid teens. There are lots of them, and they WILL frenzy. They are much easier than the crag spiders though. Another nice spot for spiders once you hit the mid to high 20s are the gigantic (not giant) spiders in everfrost. If you head to the tundra and follow the right wall from the spot where guard bandl is, there is a space along the wall where about a dozen or two very large spiders sit. They do not drop as many silks as the crags, but are almost never camped.

But at level 19, I would hunt the lions in EK. I'm pretty sure you could get exp and loot at the same time.
