  • Tailoring Skill-ups post 200 (v.high int)

I took up tailoring a while back, and had slowly gotten it to 200 doing Wu's, ribbons and LoY robes mixed with this and that. I've been dreading the last leg to 250 from 200 because I'd heard that the skillup rate here was extremely low.

Anyway, this weekend I had collected 11 stacks of wyvern hides (220) and two stacks misc hides (40) and about 10 combine attempts of LoY robes. After finishing some muramite needles, I got to 201 and this is when I started doing the velious tailoring combines. Suffice to say I was a bit surprised at reaching 210 (9 skillups) in just 86 combines of arctic masks - I went to PoK and claimed my two free skillups to 212 on ethereal swatches, then continued to 217 on the last 74 combines (5 skillups) on the last velium I had (160 attempts, 14 skillups on Saturday).

Come sunday, I went to SShrine to farm velium and when I finally had enough I had combines ready for 110 velious leather masks and 7 robes. I got a skillup to 218 on a robe, and proceeded to get another 12 skillups on the last 110 combines I had. Effectively, for the weekend that'd be 27 skillups from 201-230 (not counting 211,212) on 277 attempts - or 10.25 combine per skillup.

My magelo has my unbuffed INT at 590 and I had VoQ doing the combines, so I was thinking that maybe the INT score isn't capped at 355 as far as tradeskill skillups are concerned?

I was thinking the same thing, since I've had noticeably better skill-up rates with way-over-305 Wis and C3/C5. You've done enough combines that the 1-in-10 skill-up rate is highly unlikely to be a fluke.

      Interesting.

I have for a log time thought that I am getting better results than I should.
Im still 255 capped, however if I did not have the cap I would be at about 300 buffed.

Perhaps I'm just lucky with the rng, but maybe the cap is not as hard as SoE would like to think ...

        I got 1 in 10.9 attempts from 226 to 245 with a wis of 280.

Without cap i guess i was a little over 300.

I don't know if it's any comparison but doing 15 superb hopperhide combines then 73 LoY robe combines I got 9 skill ups for a skill up rate of 1:9.78 over all. My int was at 340 at the time.

The solution is simple, us non-lucky tailors ate your failures for you, and you stole our successes.

No seriously... joking aside though. My rate, at 305 wisdom, with a geerlok equipped, doing almost exclusively cultural robes (meaning my trivial rate was MUCH closer to my actual skill level, theoretically improving skill-up chances)... My skillup per combine rate was closer to 1:27 (yes this is 200+ tailoring).

I think part of my problem was doing combines in batches of 60-100, where i might see 1 or 2 skillups.

So if you have the patience to wait until you have about 200-300+ combines, then go ahead and wait.

I'm a ranger with 305 Wis (actually around 360 Wis, but being over the cap doesn't show up), i've been averaging about 1 skill-up in 25 combines from 182 to 233.

or maybe SOE felt sorry for tailors and tweaked the skill up rate for the skill

I am at 216 so far and 1 skill up for 30 tries is about what I have come to expect.

I hope someone will not mind answering a couple of elementary (dumb?) questions:
                    1) When/how can stats exceed 255? Do you have to attain a certain level?
                    2) What is VoQ?
                    Thanks.

at 61 you gain 5 points per stat, per level, so at 65, your stat caps are 280. With AA's you can get them higher. VoQ is Voice of Quellious (c5).

There are 2 PoP AA categorys you can also get to increase the cap limit.

Casters have Innate Enlightenment and Planar Power. The IE increases the cap limit of int/wis by 10 points per level for a max of 50 points. Planar Power increases all stats by 5 points per level for a max of 25. Get both to max and casters can have an int of 355. Gives us casters a big advantage in skill ups.

                          well...

Apparently I would be the one you took the skillups away from !

I realize that by doing Solstice robes my skillup rate would be inferior to other combine possibilities because of the difficulty.

1620 Solstice robe to go from 188 to 220 (not counting 211 and 212 which were ethereal silk swatch combines) for an amazing 1 skill up every 54 attempts.

My unbuffed int is capped at 355 with an actual of 448 not including VoQ

From 222 to 250 I did a combination of Cultural Robes and Arctic Wyvern Masks. This was done with 305 WIS displayed and a total WIS of about 310. I also had a geerlok equipped. I was amazed to see a skillup rate of about 1 point per 10 combines of the robes. After running out of components for a level of robes, I would do the masks until I reached that trivial and then go back to robes. I probably had a rate of 1 point per 20 or so combines on the masks. It sure eased the pain from getting from 188 to 222.

I have been doing solstice robes for ages and managed to get if i am lucky 1 skill up per 60. I did some earlier this week and yes same as above. I have 355 int unbuffed.

Someone in the baz was selling wyvern dirt cheap and it was a offer for this enchanter not to refuse, so I bought all 44.
I made up everything sat down to do the combines, from 44 combines I got 3 skill ups sitting there amazed, now I am not sure if this is some sort of fluke or not or to invest in more hides and dump the solstice robes. Currently 227 tailoring now, rest of my skills are maxed.
